I thought that the dark events were far behind, and that my family and I had overcome the hardest challenge that would ever face us, but that was not true…
Months later my family had the honor of a visit from Jodis, she had travelled by ship and had made it to shore, to our quiet little island town, and not long after making her way to Newlyn’s home, the same way that Rosaleen and I had travelled long before. The visit was unsuspected, and we reunite at the beach, just beyond Newlyn’s walls.
“Taylan, hello” I hear a familiar voice and lift my head from lying in the sand to see that it is Jodis.
“What are you doing here?” I ask.
“That isn’t the kind of welcome I was expecting, how about a hug?” Jodis says.
“I didn’t mean for it to sound like that, come here, how are you?” I say, happy to see her.
Stolen novel; please report.
“I am well. The journey was good, but I fear that I come here with ill news.” Jodis answers.
“Tell me, is everyone well?”
“Yes, everyone is well, but I fear I have been keeping something and worry that the wrong people have control.” Jodis explains.
I shrug, “Jodis, we just choose what is best for us. I have learned to sleep at night knowing that Queen Rosaleen and her family have blood on their hands. I know that they have done terrible things, but I do believe that they try to go through life with their best interests in mind. They have treated my family well.”
“That is the difference between you and me.” Jodis looks down, disappointed that I have already formed an opinion.
“Jodis, don’t let my opinion silence you; you saved me. Please tell me what drove you to make the journey here?”
She says, “You know who I was to the King?”
“Yes” I murmur.
“He used to tell me things when we were alone.” Jodis explains.
“Please go on, it’s okay, I will keep it secret if you want me to, just like you kept my secret.”
“Your Imposter King Wolfrim was Rosaleen’s real father.” Jodis explains in a breath.
I take a moment to process, “Jodis, you have had a long journey, please let’s go inside and get you settled.”
