Chapter 30: Darkness Descends to Rouse the Sleeping Demon

  In the VIP section

“Wha- just what is going on down there…?” Hushed whispers and disbelief permeated the VIP lounge. All elders watched with wide eyes, as dark clouds gathered in the sky and strong winds whipped through the arena. It seemed like doomsday came knocking on the door.

Dairo squinted his eyes in an attempt to see through the phenomena unfolding in the firmament, whereas Dyetz nearly fell off his seat, completely shocked by the sight of the darkness that slowly crept its way forward. It's those clouds again! Don’t tell me there is going to be another Heavenly Punishment…?

The mere thought of Heavenly Punishment raining down upon them in the Hunlua Clan made him shudder. He witnessed the complete destruction it left in the Falling Snow Mountain Range. Should it really be Heavenly Punishment, the complete Hunlua Clan would be finished. The destructive force of Heavenly Wrath allowed no survivors and was extremely cruel. Every living being in close proximity would be annihilated, even if they were unrelated.

In combination with his previous assumption that Yasha could be a Forsaken, he grew more and more restless. His eyes were locked at the dark clouds, but after a short while he sighed a breath of relief, because he did not feel the same destructive aura of the Heavenly Dao as last time. This time was similar, yet vastly different.

He then took a glance at Dairo who coldly watched the battle in the arena. Even though he looked like he did not care about the battle and the strange phenomenon in the sky, Dyetz felt an immense pressure gathering in Dairo, ready to intervene should it be necessary.

The black clouds continued to block the sunlight and threw the world into chaos and before Dyetz could relax for a moment, he was struck by another terrifying thought out of the blue, as he felt like the phenomenon was kind of familiar to him.

The sight of the darkness that was smeared over the sun like ink, robbing it of its radiant splendor felt like a scene he had witnessed before. And indeed, it was another line of their clans prophecy. He already felt like the first line fit the current events that were happening. And now after witnessing the dark clouds, he immediately thought of the next line that scared the hell out of him:

Darkness Descends to Rouse the Sleeping Demon.

He did not why, but it felt like a warning, a warning left behind by the leaders of the past. Though the rest of the prophecy, and most importantly the ending, were missing, he could feel the seriousness of the original author in these weathered words.

With that in mind Dyetz was even more sure that Yasha was a Forsaken and was about to tell Dairo about his discovery in hopes that he would show mercy to the Hunlua Clan. This was the only idea that Dyetz came up with in this short time. Just as he was about contact Dyetz, he was interrupted by an earth shaking explosion from the arena that rattled the surroundings.

  Back in the arena

Although Levi was shocked, he recovered his composure and channeled the power of his Azure Dragon blood. A transparent shadow of an azure dragon then coiled around him and filled every cell of his body with enormous power, but before the dragon could spread out further, it suddenly froze in the air, as if it was held down by invisible shackles. The dragon head looked at the burning figure and shuddered, which caused an uproar in the crowd.

This was an Azure Dragon, one of the four Sacred Beasts and guardian of the east! Under normal circumstances this beast was a king amongst kings, but today it cowered in front of an insignificant fry at the Energy Gathering Stage

“Hmph, vile beast. You are only a fraction of your past, a sad joke of your former glory and you still behave like an emperor! It is actually really funny when I think about it. Have the Heavens finally opened its eyes to see your true colors? Ah, it does not matter. You are gonna die today no matter what!” Yasha hollered with an anguished voice that did not really belong to him, as it contained too much emotions at once, just like words spoken from thousands of different people all at once.

He viciously smiled at Levi and the Azure Dragon that was still reeling in shock, after which he said, “I don’t care anymore, I want you and your bloodline to die! Die, die, die, DIE! I want all of you dead and the rest of you folks, all of you can go to hell!”

Following Yasha’s words, the Asura blood’s burning intensified and caused a vague outline of a person to appear that looked quite similar to Yasha upon further inspection, but it was too blurry for most to see clearly. Levi knew that he had no time to spare when he noticed the odd behavior and cries of warning of the Azure Dragon Blood that urged him to eradicate the foe in front of him.

The shadow behind Yasha and the strange black flames made him fearful, even though he did not want to admit it, so he unleashed the combined force of three phases of the Journey of the Azure Dragon that he mastered and threw it at Yasha in hopes of destroying him in one hit. This time he not only chained the three phases together, this time he thoroughly fused them together to a completely new strike with even more extraordinary might.

However, contrary to before, now that Yasha was controlled by the Asura blood, he counterattacked with Destiny Devourer to fend off the blue lights and used his own sword technique to dance around the arena as it it was the easiest thing in the world.

Covered in black flames of his own blood, Yasha jumped in the air and raised Destiny Devourer vertically, completely breaking Levi’s sword technique as a result, after which he hacked down with immense force causing cracks to appear on the stage. With the Asura blood running rampant without his mind holding it back, Yasha felt the usual feeling of bliss whenever he used the Asura blood with full force.

His speed and strength grew exponentially the more they fought and he managed to drive Levi into a corner. The flames on his body then seemed to reach a critical point and spread from his body to Destiny Devourer, causing some of the weathered runes to emit a weak light that was quickly covered by the dark flames, so nobody noticed anything unusual about the sword. But the runes made Destiny Devourer even sharper and brought its lethality to a completely new level.

The scene from before was turned around! Now, it was Yasha’s turn to toy around with his opponent. With all of his abilities unleashed in full force, Yasha suddenly felt that being controlled by the Asura blood was not as bad as he thought. This feeling of raw power coursing through his veins made him drunk and he could not get enough of this ecstasy. While it seemed contradictory, it felt like he could control the world by embracing the power hidden deep inside of his body.

But what he did not realize was the damage that the rampaging Asura Blood left behind. Even though he completely overpowered his opponent, the backlash of the Asura Blood was even more destructive. In order to destroy Levi, the Asura blood drew everything out of Yasha’s without holding back. If Yasha did not finish this battle quick enough, he would die before Levi even did anything.

The price he had to pay was simply too great for him to bear right now, as Yasha was only in the Energy Gathering Stage. He did not even begin to temper his body and inner organs. The only reason he was still standing was the Asura blood that strengthened his body during his awakening. But Yasha did not notice anything of this, as he recklessly threw himself at Levi again and again without any regard for himself.

The flurry of sword strikes that rained upon Levi tore open gashing wounds and blood flew out like a fountain, splashing all over Yasha’s face. Strangely though, Levi’s blood did not evaporate after coming in contact with the flame burning on Yasha. Yasha naturally felt Levi’s blood and grew more excited while saying, “This really is fate helping me. Who would have thought that I would-?” Before he could end his sentence, Yasha suddenly coughed out blood countless times. Wiping the blood from his face, he shrugged it off and then continued his onslaught without caring for anything else.

Levi now was as pale as a sheet of paper and did not understand why Yasha suddenly started blabbering this nonsense about fate and eradicating all of his kind. He constantly backed off and tried his best to parry the frantic attacks of Yasha that kept pushing him to the edge of the arena. His dignified bearing from the start was now completely gone, replaced by fear and a touch of madness.

Never before in his life had he fought an opponent like that, an opponent that relentlessly attacked without a care for his own wounds. He felt like he battled against a cornered beast, one that was imprisoned for an eternity and one that could finally unleash all of its anger.

Levi jumped backwards while roaring loudly, expressing his unwillingness to lose, “Ahhh, how can this be?! A puny ant in the Energy Gathering Stage is pushing me into a dead end?! I can’t lose!” His miserable voice was heard by every single spectator and resonated with the crowd.

How could this young boy win against Levi, the prodigy of the Azure Dragon Sect with the legendary Azure Dragon Body? How did he do it? They were left speechless while watching Levi and Yasha fight, as this was a battle that completely surpassed the level of Energy Tempering cultivators and already went over to the level of Energy Overflow, which was unheard of since the advent of the kingdoms tournament. Even more impressive, however, was Yasha’s fighting power that enabled him to surmount two major realms! Even during the Old Times, the Golden Age of cultivation, it was nearly unheard of! So Yasha quickly rose to the level of a terrifying demon in many people’s minds.

Yasha never stopped when he saw Levi getting weaker and grew more ferocious instead. A glint flashed through his eyes and then he used Life Sword to destroy the last speck of hope that Levi had, breaking through his defense and effectively sealing his fate.

The sword in Levi’s hand flew through the air until it stabbed into the ground some meters away. Levi spit out blood left and right, clutching the place where his heart was located, barely able to stand. He wobbled forward but managed to find a stable footing.

Yasha was only one meter away from the genius that was covered in blood. His extraordinary blue robe was torn in many places and his golden hair was in disorder. He now resembled a beggar from the street, a far stretch from the dignified young master of the Azure Dragon Sect.

With scarlet eyes that seemed to hold oceans of blood and gore, Yasha stared at Levi. In that moment it was like time stopped for a second. By now, the black flame on Yasha struggled to continue burning, but it was to no avail. It was already a magnificent feet for him to win a battle at the level of Energy Overflow experts, but he nevertheless had a limit, even with the Asura blood.

His current body and cultivation were simply to weak and could not bear the power of the Asuras. Though he won the battle, his body was also left in shambles. Many bones were broken and he lost a lost of blood, in addition to the blood that was burned to fuel the Asura Blood. But that was not even the worst part, the worst were his meridians and veins that raptured in many places, caused by the rampant Asura Blood flooding through he body without any regards for potential damage. With the damage from the previous adding up, he could practically be called crippled now, but the his body’s regeneration immediately kicked in, trying to heal the wreckage.

Every other person aside of Yasha would have been a dead man long ago with those kinds of wounds and even if they survived somehow, they would be nothing more than a cripple. Yasha, however, was still standing and was bend on killing Levi, as he still had not regained control over his body and the flames of blood lust were still burning unimpressed by his heavy injuries.

It was quite the opposite, with every passing second, they burned with more ferocity longing to quench their thirst for blood. Nevertheless, he still had to end the battle quickly, as his body was close to collapsing, even with his amazing regenerating ability.

The black flames then retreated and revealed the bloodied figure of Yasha underneath. Only now could the crowd see his horribly disfigured body that was covered with fresh blood and open wounds. Looking completely unimpressed by his wounds, Yasha looked like an authentic Asura that came straight out of hell in that moment. His eyes radiated a disregard of life that Levi had never witnessed before. A life in front of Yasha looked like it amounted to a speck of dust, completely worthless. Levi expected Yasha to continue with his strange words, but noticed that Yasha moved closer to him with slow and steady steps instead, while saying nothing at all.

“You… Wh- What are you doing? The battle is over. I surrender!”, Levi stammered. The last seconds completely crushed Levi confidence and he was sure that he would die if he continued to fight. This aside, he could not continue fighting, even if he wanted to.

Yasha strode forward, seemingly oblivious to Levi surrendering. He held Destiny Devourer loosely in his right hand. The sword tip touched the ground and produced loud screeching noises, while Yasha moved forward. He then raised his sword in an unhurried manner, ready to decapitate Levi.
