In the modern era there have been countless technological advancements.
From medicine to spave travel, there have been innovations after innovations reaching into what previously was a novelist's wet dream.
For gaming however, there has been a shift.
The mouse and keyboard have become absolete after the new world of Full Dive VR tech made headlines, from minor game companies to eventually every game company.
Support for previous non vr games rapidly declined, most companies struggled desperately to make a foothold within the vr world but most eventually crumbled under one company. 'Hukito GDT'.
'Hukito GDT' was the first gaming company to make full use of the Full Dive VR tech, and to put it simply? They did it the best.
Glory online. This one game took the world by storm.
Glory Online quickly garnered interest for being the most immersive and link compatible Full Dive VR game. Many news outlets warned of the untold dangers of VR addiction and the worries of Escapism in early adolescents but were quickly drowned out by millions of postive reviews in the first couple weeks of Glory Online.
On the surface, it seems like the run of the mill fantasy setting MMORPG, with everying from the typical starter vilge that a new pyer would spawn inside of to the starter quests having the pyer navigate vilge commodaties and killing chickens for gold and XP.
Each NPC the pyer could talk to felt real, so real in fact that many guides for new pyers suggested turning on nameptes to make sure the 'person' you just had a conversation with was actually a real human or not.
What quickly became apparent however, was the ck of features. The menu simply dispyed 3 options.
Nameptes.
Combat assist.
Logout.
The pyer had to think about the gold they had for it to show briefly in the corner of their retina.
Nothing else was offered to the pyer, no map, no inventory.
Nothing.
This game worked on a personal merit system, you liked practising your swordsmanship? A 'swordsmanship +1' would appear in your vision before fading out.
You were cut by a dagger? Either wait for it to heal and recieve 'Regeneration +1', or bandage the wound and recieve 'Mend +1'.
In the early days many pyers talked about the possibility of super regeneration. If cutting oneself and letting it heal, thus recieving a skill point in regeneration. Then won't they eventually have super regeneration?
The problem? It hurt. Many people quickly made this a heated topic of discussion, compints about why a game needed a pain system were rampant in the communities surrounding the game. Even streamers gradually started to have entire livestreams dedicated to this topic.
Why was pain inside of a Full Dive VR game?
Yes. You felt the pain. This game was real. Every time your sword hit something you felt the the horrible sensation of rending flesh. If you were stabbed by an ally by accident while fighting a raid boss? You felt it.
It was more than a game world, if the logout feature wasnt avaible then would a person even be able to tell?
In the first month of release the game suffered its first casualty, a 29 year old male from [redacted], going by the alias {Critarow}, suffered a fatal cardiogenic shock.
Glory Online forums had a brief period of shock and heated discussion, that was until the reason was made public however.
Critarow was a Glory Online streamer with a smaller viewership of around 240 concurrent people, his st live stream?
