Singularity Point: Those Who Seek

It was a dark night as three figures walked up to a large building. It appeared to be a large-multipurposed building upon a collage campus, but the three of them certainly were not college students. One of them was about 180cm tall, a man in a long black coat and carried a walking cane with him. He appeared to be in his mid thirties at least, with jet black hair and raven black eyes. He appeared a bit rough, but also rather experienced. His boots appeared to be quite comfortable, but also rather sturdy and meant for hard work.

Behind him were two young boys. They were about 120-130cm tall, and one had snow white hair and ruby red eyes. He was wearing a green short sleeve hoodie, a red long sleeve shirt, and black shorts. He also had red sneakers, and a baseball cap put on his head in reverse. He appeared to be a rather energetic and earnest boy based on appearances.

Meanwhile, the other boy has aqua blue hair and purple amethyst eyes. He appeared to be about the same height, or perhaps just a few centimeters shorter, then the other boy. He was wearing a blue long sleeve hoodie, a white short sleeve shirt with a purple swirl decal on the front, and dark grey shorts. His sneakers were blue like his hair, and he was wearing glasses as well.

The trio certainly stood out as they headed towards the building in front of them, which appeared to have guards on the outside, checking everyone who entered. It had quite a few guards too, and even new and state of the art cameras. It even seemed to have thermal and echo sensors, as well as the latest model of security robots on the outside. As they approached, one of the guards quickly came up to them.

"Hey, no kids allowed. You also need to show ID to get past this point".

"Hey, we are his bodyguards! You have to let us past!" the white haired boy complained.

"Shut it, you. We are his assistants, not his bodyguards" the blue haired boy sniped back, talking as if the white haired boy was an idiot.

The two immediately glared at each other, while the man just let out a sigh as he took out a document.

"These two are in fact my assistants, and I have authorization from the mayor for all three of us to attend".

The guard checked the document, before nodding. "I see, sorry about that. Just, tell them to not fight while inside. Have to say, you just barely made it on time".

"Yeah, we got held up. Now then..."

He turned back to see the two of them locked in hands, pushing against each other.

"Both of you, knock it off and come along. We are already running behind as it is, and we have work to do".

Hearing his words, the two stopped immediately, although they still shot a glare at each other as they followed along with the man.

"We wouldn't be late if Zak hadn't barged into my bath and picked a fight".

"I wouldn't have had to share a bath with you Luka, if you didn't take so damn long every time!"

"I wouldn't have to take so long if you didn't always drag me into trouble and get me so dirty!"

"Ha, you don't need that long for a little sweat and dirt! Maybe I wouldn't have to if you would get out of your books more and go outside on your own!"

"I will have you know books are way better than just wasting your energy running around!"

"You say that, but you end up enjoying adventure just as much as me Luka!"

"Adventure can be found in books too! Of course I enjoy adventure, idiot Zak!"

  "What did you call me?!"

"Both of you!" he shouted as he slammed his cane into the ground again. "Do I need to give you another punishment again when we get home after this, or will you both behave and focus on the mission?"

"Sorry" they both replied in unison, instinctively rubbing their rears.

"Good, now let's focus on what matters. We need to find out who has the illegally smuggled weapon, what they plan to do with it, and if we find it here, secure said weapon".

"And if the weapon is sentient, Lucian?"

"Then we really need to secure it" Lucian LeChance replied to Luka as the three entered the building. They immediately found themselves in a room that appeared to have all sorts of people, from the very rich to the well connected, to those who appeared to be presenting their research and findings within this showroom to potential sponsors.

"I don't suppose one of these displays has the weapon?" Zak asked, ready to go.

"Cool it Zak. We don't want to start a fight if we can" Lucian said, while Luka stuck his tongue out at Zak as they walked behind Lucian. Zak shot him a glare in response. Still, they seemed to leave it at that, since they were just scolded a moment ago. Plus, the room was full of dignitaries, which meant there was also a lot of private security. Fighting in this room could be risky.

As the trio moved forward, acting as if everything was natural, Luka adjusted his hairclip, which had a hidden camera inside of it. He put on his glasses, which featured a heads up display on them and let him view the various pictures. He forwarded them to Lucian, who used his own glasses to view them as well.

"I have linked us all. Telepathic communication lines should be up" Luka said telepathically, communicating with his mind instead of his mouth.

"Uhg, I hate this. It feels so weird" Zak complained.

"For now, just focus on why we are here. We need to identify the weapon, and either retrieve or neutralize it. Zak, you see the photographs?"

Despite not wearing any glasses, Zak was able to see his own heads up display in his mind, as if it was beamed right into his head.

"Facial Recognition isn't getting a response for all of them, but its not like we have access to all the databases" Zak reported. "However, there are a surprising number of generals interested in the art here".

"Idiot. They are here for the weapon. Likely buyers".

"You know, its wrong to assume guilt so quickly, Luka".

"Both of you, focus. This is a charity for veterans as well, so it only makes sense there are a ton of military people here. That said, it would make the perfect cover, so while a lot of them are likely legitimate, a few should be buyers".

"So we steal it first" Zak responded.

  "Reclaim it, but yes".

"Too bad we can't call local authorities. This is such a hassle".

"With stuff like this, its best to keep it under wraps. Our client wanted discretion as well".

  Zak let out a sigh.

"Boss, can we even trust the client? I feel like we are going to get stabbed in the back for sure on this one".

"I have to agree with Zak on this one. Lucian, are we sure this isn't a trap? A few of these names are people we encountered in the past on other cases. General Rokomi back there was the one who you caught having an affair with the president's wife just last month".

"...at least we confirmed they weren't selling state secrets".

Zak spotted someone else as well.

"Isn't that guy the hitman we had arrested three months ago for murdering three people with a robot?"

"Yep. And the woman over there is the one who was selling children to evil scientists...I wasn't aware she escaped prison".

"Zak, Luka, do not engage her" Lucian warned immediately. "I will look into seeing what deal she cut later. Right now, focus on the job we were hired for".

  "Fine" they both said together.

As they moved through the crowds, they noticed something else as well. Luka quickly took some pictures to confirm.

"The guard by the door over there, its a cyborg. And the other is a straight up robot disguised as a person".

  "You sure Luka?"

"Yes Zak. One of them is completely blank for me. Its not a mental block, it just straight up doesn't have a mind to read. At least one using a brain. And the Cyborg is finnicky, he has cyber augments for the brain. His thoughts are encrypted and fragmented, like how all cyborgs with augmented brains feel to me".

  Lucian grimaced.

"Any other access points aside from that door?"

"None on the building plans registered by the city council. But these guys are smuggling illegal weapons. There are probably unregistered access points. But if you want me to find them..."

Lucian nodded to Luka's thought, as they stopped at some of what was on display.

  "Any isolated rooms?"

"The guests have access to the art displays, as well as the tech previews as well. There are various rooms with exhibits, so they had to leave a lot open. There are some bathrooms, but that is risky....hmm, it looks like storage closets are part of the public areas? But I doubt those were left unlocked".

  "No, they were".

  "Really boss? Why?"

  "Ahh...adult matters".

Lucian didn't delve into any further details, as he remembered some of his own broom closet experiences. They weren't that young, but he thought they might be too young still to talk about stuff like that to.

Instead, he noticed one member of the staff that looked like a good target.

"I have spotted a good one. The janitor, that will be who we get information from".

  "Why the janitor?"

"They have universal access, and while these smugglers are careful, they can't just deny access to the janitor. I am sure they cover stuff up when he will be around so it looks normal, but he would absolutely know of any remodeling. After all, the janitors here also deal with pipes as well".

"Ah, and any secret science room probably still needs water for washing off chemicals and emergency showers and the like".

  "Exactly".

With this, the three of them got to work. Lucian nodded to Zak, who walked over to the janitor.

"Hey mister, I am feeling kinda sick...that strange juice kinda tasted funny...can you show me where the bathroom is?"

Realizing what was about to happen, and that more work might be created if he didn't help, the janitor quickly let Zak into one of the hallways to take him to the bathroom. The moment that was done, suddenly Lucian knocked him out from behind once the coast was clear, and quickly dragged him into a supply closet. Zak and Luka followed him inside, and Luka placed both his hands on the man's balding head. Zak kept watch, while Lucian stayed with Luka.

"Alright, initiating full telepathic probe" Luka announced, as he focused on invading the mind. At range, he could only read traces of someone's mind. He could force his way in he supposed, but each brain was unique and that was difficult, not to mention they would absolutely notice. But when he was close up like this, he could probe all he wanted without leaving a trace, and even wipe the mind afterwards to leave no trace.

Luka's psychic abilities weren't anything to underestimate. And the difficulty of using it was pretty high too.

"It looks like our target is probably in a lab in a secondary basement level. We can access it through the west stairwell".

  "Got it. The lock?"

  "Electronic, heavily encrypted".

"Oh, I am up then?" Zak said with a cheeky smile.

Lucian nodded. "Lets get going then. We have no time to lose".

The three of them quickly left the closet, leaving the janitor there asleep. They headed over to the west stairwell, making sure to avoid drawing attention and also avoiding crowds in general. The lock was a new, advanced state of the art lock. Rumored to be completely hackproof, as it used an AI enhanced failsafe and was cut off from outside network intrusion.

Zak however, didn't care about that at all. A cube emerged from his pocket, floating around him.

"Alright, lets do this" he said, as the cube suddenly had a wire emerge from it and connect to the electronic lock. In mere seconds, it deactivated and opened up, letting them inside and allowing them to enter. "Woot! Go me!"

The trio headed down into a dangerous area. Had any normal adults been there, and known what they were doing, Lucian LeCross probably would have been heavily scolded for bringing children, especially ones that didn't even look like they had their growth spurts yet. Still, they descended all the same, heading down to the basement labs. As they approached the door however, Luka suddenly paused.

"I am getting a bad vibe from beyond that door".

Zak took a combative stance immediately, and Lucian suddenly detached the handle from his cane and pressed a button, as it turned into a pistol. The cane itself shortened itself as if it was a telescope, and he put it in his pocket. With his weapon now ready, he looked over at Luka.

  "Any human guards?"

"No humans, no animals, at least from a telepathic sweep. However, if they are using mind shields, they might be invisible to me".

  "Mind shields huh?"

Mind Shields could prevent Luka from sensing someone with a cursory sweep. If he could see the person however, he could typically focus in on them, but it would usually block his telepathy. Only a robot would give no response still from a focused search, but it required line of sight on that person.

"Zak, can you do a thermal scan?"

"Got it. Cubixi, perform thermal scan".

The floating cube seemed to obey, as it scanned the room ahead and revealed any thermals to them. It appeared to be cold, however there were many blank spots in the lab. And yet, there was one case that was giving off some crazy thermals.

"That case right there is probably the weapon in question".

  "It's out in the open?"

  "Great, this will be easy!"

Zak went to open the door, but Luka grabbed his arm and held him back.

"Idiot! Think things through! It's really strange! There must be traps we can't detect".

  "Even with our skills combined?"

"I am getting a bad vibe after all".

  Zak grimaced. "Ah, right".

"So, there must be automated traps that are using thermal concealers, which explains the weirdly cold parts. And possibly guards, using thermal concealers and mind shields, but that is less certain".

"So what do we do?" Luka asked.

"The system is probably automated, in which case I will use this" Lucian said, taking out a grenade. "Zak, open the door quickly, and then close it quickly".

"Got it" Zak said, quickly opening the door. Lucian threw it in, and then Zak closed the door. Suddenly, an electrical pulse wave shot out of the room, making the lights flicker above them, but it seemed to have zero effect on Cubixi.

Once the pulse waves were over, they entered the room, to see over a dozen disabled automated turrets, all pointed right at the door.

"Yep, they would have torn us to pieces the moment we entered".

"Yikes. To think we nearly had to buy a child sized coffin for Zak".

"Hey! Don't talk like that! Especially right in front of me!"

"Would have had to be a closed casket too...ow!"

Lucian bonked Luka on the head to get him to stop, as the three approached the case.

"Looks like the size of what we were after" Lucian mentioned.

"Do we open the case?" Luka asked.

"I mean, we kinda have to right? Just cause there are thermals here, doesn't mean the weapon is here" Zak mentioned.

Lucian shook his head. "Unless what is inside is a bomb to blow up anyone who goes looking".

  "Oh, right..."

"That would have also been a closed casket".

  "Stop writing me off damnit!"

"But you seem to die on every route!"

  "Grrrr".

As the two bickered, Lucian inspected the case itself, checking for any traps.

"No signs of broken seals, no lingering scent of explosives. The readout is just about right...and from the readout, it appears the energy signature is stable".

He tapped it a bit, getting back a bit of an echo.

"So it's good to open?" Zak asked.

"No, it's a trap" Lucian mentioned. "The weapon isn't in this case. This might not even be the case itself".

"Wait what, how do you know?"

"Because Zak, they have had this weapon for a week. There is no way they have not cracked this open at least once by this point to see what is inside. And yet the readout says it's all fine, and the seal is unbroken. They didn't even try to hijack or bypass all that through the power system. And, this material is X-Ray shielded and Vibration insulated, so they can't use echomapping or X-Rays to look at what's inside. In other words, this was nothing but a decoy, put here to trick us. However, the fact that it's so warm likely means it was only activated recently. In other words, this only recently became a decoy. If I had to guess..."

He took out a gun and aimed it across the room. Luka and Zak turned around, only to see several armed men pointing guns right at them, and one of them that looked like a classic evil doctor one might normally see, balding and looking grim.

"As expected, the evil ones always wear glasses" Zak mentioned.

"Hey!" Luka exclaimed, not expecting to take such friendly fire all of a sudden.

"To think, my security was bypassed by some man and two kids" the doctor said. "Tell me, before you die, who sent you to your deaths?"

"Woah now, that's jumping the gun quite a bit there. Are you sure you want to open fire and create such a mess right now?"

"How about you put down that foolish weapon of yours. Do you really think that will work?" he said, as a large, ten foot tall humanoid armor plated mech suddenly stepped out from the shadows and in front of the doctor. "Unlike you, I am not so foolish as to drop my guard so much as to bring children here. Ekson, I will be asking you to clean up this mess afterwards".

Luka then noticed the doctor was holding a rather similar case.

  "Boss, the case".

"Yeah I see it" Lucian said, still holding up his gun.

"You refuse to surrender or give up a name then?"

Zak groaned. "Sheesh, this guy is totally skipping steps in this dialogue. Where is his evil monologue!"

Everyone let out a collective sigh at Zak's foolish comment, as a large man stepped forward.

"I am Ekson, formerly known as LE-53. You have no hope of beating both me and the robot. Especially not with a puny pistol".

  Lucian scowled.

"It's not puny, and also, its not a pistol" Lucian said, suddenly shooting into the air. In the next moment, all the guns the thugs had were pulled up to the spot in the ceiling that Lucian shot, which appeared to be some sort of energy projectile. "Doctor Karkonov, it seems you have attempted to murder us and are in possession of dangerous materials. We will be making a citizen's arrest on you".

"First you have to get past me!"

The large, heavy man known as Ekson moved with a surprising amount of speed. He was able to move much faster than any of them expected, and already had his fist ready for a good and solid punch. And yet, his first target was not Lucian...but Luka to his left.

"Lets see how you like this!"

Luka hopped backward, but the man's charge seemed to account for that. He was going right for the face too. As Luka began to brace himself, Zak was already moving.

  "Let's go, Cubixi!"

Suddenly, Zak punched Cubixi with his right fist...and suddenly, Cubixi seemed to almost transform and expand, as it covered the fist and then crawled up his arm, covering it as it formed what appeared to be some sort of powered tech gauntlet. Furthermore, part of it went across his back for a moment, separating and covering his left arm and fist two, creating two large mechanical gauntlets over his arms. The ends seemed to have some sort of propulsion that didn't bother Zak at all, as he launched himself forward with extreme speed and intercepted Ekson by punching him right in the face, sending him sprawling across the floor, although he somehow managed to stick the landing.

"No one gets to hit Luka but me, you got that?!"

  "Get that idiotic brat, you!"

A few of them threw throwing knives at high speed from Zak's blindspot, causing him to be delayed upon noticing them. And yet, all of them seemed to lose momentum rapidly and just stop in mid air. They didn't fall, but they just floated.

"Oi, shitty doctor. I am the only one allowed to insult Zak".

Suddenly, Luka sent the knives back to the senders, injuring them in various points that while not lethal, would absolutely be serious enough to keep them out of the fight. And possibly exempt them from behind able to do heavy physical labor.

"Shit, both of those brats are not normal!"

"Obviously. I would never take children who can't defend themselves to such a dangerous place".

The doctor growled, apparently not happy with being talked down to like an idiot. The robot moved in on them, as Ekson proceeded to get back up. Luka created a telekinetic shield against the robot's fist, although it was quite difficult for him due to the sheer mass of the thing. Its lack of a mind, and the sheer density and weight of the materials, also made it difficult to manipulate telekinetically. Furthermore, its power core was churning out enough juice to disrupt telekinetic energy. Thats why it was typically hard to use on robots in general. And obviously as a robot, any telepathic attack was useless.

At the same time, Zak engaged Ekson. His mechanized gauntlets gave his attacks serious power and weight, and even helped to enhance his speed. Furthermore, Zak was clearly moving much faster then a normal twelve or thirteen year old should be able to move, even without the aid of his gauntlets. The doctor was sure they were augmenting his physical abilities somehow, but he also suspected Zak's physical abilities were already augmented to some extent even before that. It felt like he adapted way too fast, even if he was experienced to sudden power ups.

But Ekson was a bit difficult for him to fight. As Zak got in close, nearby metal objects began to spark, and tried to strike him with electricity. Holographic barriers projected around him to protect him, but some still grazed him and it looked like it hurt. Furthermore, every time he punched, some sort of electrical or magnetic interference occured where the punches lost some momentum and impact, so while he did some damage, it wasn't as much as he should be doing.

"Hahaha! You brats think you can you can overcome me!?" Ekson shouted, as he landed a blow right into Zak's torso and knocked him back a bit, although Zak was able to block it enough to remain on his feet. Meanwhile, Luka was pushed back by the sheer weight of the robot. They ended up back to back now.

  "Trade?"

  "Trade".

The two of them both moved around each other as they switched directions, with Luka facing Ekson and Zak facing the robot. Zak activated the boosters on his fists and went full on flying at the robot, as his fists seemed to increase in size suddenly. At the same time, Ekson unleashed an electrical bolt against Luka, but Luka telekinetically moved an object into the way which absorbed the lightning. At the same time, he snapped his fingers, and various glass suddenly shattered as it flew towards and around Luka. Luka sent them all towards the man, which forced him onto the defensive.

And in that moment, Luka ripped off one of the disabled laser turrets Lucian's grenade had disabled earlier, and sent the large, heavy, mechanized defense construct right at him. Even Ekson wasn't able to use his electrical and magnetic fields to block the attack enough to not take some serious damage from that, although it seemed he avoided any critical injuries somehow. However, it was in that moment that he felt himself starting to get sluggish, like his brain was under stress. His mind shield had been slightly damaged and was working at reduced capacity now, which allowed Luka to begin a telepathic assault on his mind.

Zak meanwhile put a huge dent into the robot's torso. It seemed he was able to generate enough force and power behind his attacks to actually damage the robot, unlike Luka who appeared to be better at precision attacks and overwhelming the enemy. Within the side of the gauntlet, there was a strange, spherical core looking like thing, with three rings around it that appeared to serve as turbines or some form of generation ability. They were starting to spin with increased power, no longer hampered by the magnetic field produced by Ekson. As they revved, Zak's power began to increase further, and he was trading blows with the large robot on equal terms now, and occasionally getting through and delivering a major hit on it.

Furthermore, it appeared every time the gauntlets made contact, they hacked into the robot just a bit, damaging its processing capacity with spam attacks. The longer the battle went on, it would take additional hardware and software damage simultaneously, which was a major problem for it for obvious reasons.

The Doctor clearly was not thrilled, and he looked to give his hired guards ordered. However, while he had been occupied with the strange and unusual children, Lucian hadn't just been sitting around. He went around the side and engaged the guards without anyone noticing. Now, the Doctor couldn't say he hired the greatest and most capable. But they were no pushovers either. And yet, single handed, Lucian defeated them all in hand to hand combat, although it appears he did bash some of them with his own weapon as well. Only a few remained inbetween him and Lucian.

"Now then, Doctor. I will be taking that case in your hand, and I think the police will want to have a nice, long chat with you".

"Tsk. Don't think it will go so easy!" he shouted, as he took out some sort of ray gun like thing. However, rather then aiming it at Lucian, he aimed it at Luka and Zak, firing it as he set it to the max setting. It emitted a force that felt like it was as powerful as a speeding eighteen wheeler, and it slammed right into Luka and Zak. Both went flying into the wall, and made actual dents and impacts into the wall. "Now those brats are dead, its all your fault, and you are all alone now. My robot and Ekson will kill you".

However, while Lucian looked annoyed, he didn't look that panicked or worried. For a moment, the doctor was confused as to why.

  "Owww...that hurt..."

"It smashed right through our barriers...is anything broken?"

"Nothing major, but my pinkie finger is I think. I might need it to be reset".

"Ahh...I think that twisted up a toe or two...shiza this hurts a lot!"

Luka and Zak respectively discussed that as they got themselves out of the wall, apparently still alive. Furthermore, although it clearly had hurt them a great deal, it had failed to do any major damage like shatter their limbs. Had they been normal children, that should have killed them two times over. Even using their abilities to shield them, there was clearly enough force in that to have snapped their necks, but somehow they came out with some scrapes and bruises, and some minor broken bones, but nothing that seemed to really disable them.

Ekson flinched a bit, as the impact had torn up their clothes a bit, including their sleeves. And on their upper arms, there was a barcode on Luka's right arm and Zak's left arm, with the writing "LE-01" and "LE-02" respectively.

"No way...you are survivors of that facility..."

  The Doctor glared at Lucian.

"For someone so quick to lecture me, you use humanoid weapons the same as me".

"Not at all. Frankly, I can't get rid of them no matter what I do".

"We follow him of our own free wills!"

"He gave us a home and a family, unlike sociopaths like you!"

Lucian, Luka, and Zak all spoke their minds. Zak rushed forward and punched right through the robot, while Luka quickly took the opportunity to ensnare Ekson in rubber wiring, wrapping him up as much as possible to suppress his magnetic and electric fields. Zak then went straight for the doctor, but Lucian got there first and punched him right in the face, knocking him unconscious and causing Zak to skid to a halt.

"We are arresting him, not killing him. Now Zak, we need to confirm the contents of the case".

  "Right..."

Zak quickly got to work, as a wire came out of his gauntlets and attached itself to the case.

"Looks like they tried to get the seals open repeatedly, some of the sensors are damaged, as well as its locator beacon being totally disabled. But...I have vital records!"

"Got it. Another humanoid weapon. Let's hope this one can be saved".

Zak nodded, understanding what would happen if they couldn't. He and Luka were able to retain their independent minds and personalities, but some human weapons had their minds totally caved out, in order to make them more obedient and loyal. In such a situation, due to the risks and damages that could occur, they would be forced to destroy the weapon. That meant killing the person inside, but it couldn't be helped. There have already been three cases were Humanoid Weapons who lacked individuality went on a murder spree, accidentally triggered by something when people made attempts to have them develop an independent mind.

Once the codes were accepted, Zak opened the case as Luka came over. Inside of the case, there was a child, a young boy of maybe nine years old. He was completely naked, laying in the case as if he was sitting with his knees in front of his chest. There was some tubes there, giving him sedatives, as well as various life support measures as well to keep him stable and alive. Furthermore, they could see a fragment of a barcode on his back, as well as right under his left butt cheek. That was the only one fully visible, although they were sure there was also one on the back of his neck as well. Under the barcode they could see, it say "LE-07".

  "Another one from the facility".

"And one of the original ten" Lucian grimaced. "I don't suppose either of you remember him?"

The two of them shook their heads.

"We were all kept separate for the most part".

"The only few we really met a few times was 03, 04, and 08".

"Or at least, that we can remember meeting".

"Yeah, a lot of our memories were taken after all".

The two looked at the boy, and then at Lucian.

"Alright, we will take him home. I will let the client know that things took an unexpected turn, and notify the police. We need to get back home anyways".

Zak looked puzzled. "We do? Why?"

"Because you and Luka still have school tomorrow, and you can't tell them you couldn't come because of what we are doing last night".

"...can't we take the day off?"

"If I let you take a day off every time we did an operation at night, you would never go. Now, stop dragging your feet".

Lucian closed up the case, and decided to bring it with them rather than transport the boy outside of it. He could take the boy out after they get home.

The fact that someone transported a child human weapon like this into the city though...I have a lot of concerns of what this might mean for the future. It might be...the events of three years ago are starting up once again.

With such ominous worries, the three of them set off to go back home.
