STORY 4 A SILVER INGOT – Chapter 9 (Three New Guests Arrive at the Inn)

Wu Mi had always been afraid to meet Yan Hua's eyes, which always carried a hint of mockery. He had been worried that Yan Hua would discover that it was him who had followed her up to the 3rd floor st night. But Yan Hua seemed to act as if nothing had happened, still with the same gaze, the same words, the same natural demeanor. Wu Mi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Xiao Qing's adorable smile caught Yan Hua and Wu Mi's attention as soon as she entered the inn. Xiao Qing looked up at the wooden board in the center of the hall, filled with rules, and was carefully reading it with her finger in her mouth.

"Little girl, do you want to stay at the inn?" Yan Hua bent down and asked kindly. Wu Mi felt like his teeth were about to fall out; he had never seen such a smile from Yan Hua since he started working at the inn.

"Sister, you're so beautiful." Xiao Qing blinked her watery eyes up and down, her thin, red lips pouting, making one want to pinch her fair face just by looking at her.

No one had ever praised Yan Hua before, so when she suddenly heard such words, her expression seemed a bit unnatural. "Little girl, you really know how to talk." She gently pinched Xiao Qing's face. "What's your name? Sister will definitely arrange a nice room for you."

"Xiao Qing." Xiao Qing still wore a sweet smile and said, "I'm not alone; I'm with three people."

Yan Hua was taken aback and looked behind Xiao Qing, but there was no one there.

Xiao Qing calmly turned to the door and said, "Xue Quan, you can come in now." As soon as she finished speaking, a foot stepped heavily over the threshold of the inn, and both Yan Hua and Wu Mi turned to look at the newcomer.

That was a person dressed in bck clothes, wearing a bck felt hat, with a very ugly appearance. His unkempt beard was covered in dust, his body was short and hunched, and his cotton-padded jacket and trousers were already bursting with bits of cotton, making him look like a complete beggar. Behind him, he was carrying a person whose entire body was wrapped in white cloth bandage, with even the eyes, nostrils, and mouth tightly bound.

"This..." Yan Hua stepped forward, examining the person wrapped in white cloth, and asked with some confusion.

"I understand your inn's rules. Just arrange the best room on the 3rd floor for it," Xiao Qing said, taking out three silver ingots from her sleeve and handing them to Yan Hua.

  At night.

The sound of Yan Hua's soft footsteps echoed again at the staircase, and a dim candlelight once more illuminated the 3rd floor. This time, Yan Hua pushed open Room A-7, where the body brought by Xiao Qing and Xue Quan y.

The corpse y on the intricately carved mahogany bed; the offerings and fireworks in the room had long been prepared by the innkeeper as instructed, and the bright red candles filled the room with a warm glow. Yan Hua set down the tray in her hands and approached the bed.

"Are you satisfied with this room?" Yan Hua said as she slowly began to remove the white cloth from the corpse.

As the white cloth gradually fell away, a perfectly intact corpse, exuding a chilling aura, was fully revealed before Yan Hua.

Yan Hua's gaze tightened in an instant, followed by a look of sheer terror. She staggered backward, crashing heavily into the table, causing the newly brought-in food to scatter all over the floor.

"Impossible, absolutely impossible." Yan Hua trembled and curled up on the ground, her face filled with extreme fear, to the point where she could barely make a sound.

The cold corpse y quietly on the bed, its snow-white skin fwless, dressed in a long red silk robe. A pair of delicate, fair hands rested gently on its abdomen, and its long, dark hair flowed softly over the bed. A pair of bck embroidered shoes adorned with golden lotus flowers fit perfectly on its small feet.

Yan Hua recognized that face, and she had known it for a long time, but she had been dead for a long time too. How could a dead person appear here? And how could they be preserved so well?

A cold light shot from Yan Hua's eyes...
