STORY 4 A SILVER INGOT – Chapter 14 (The Identity of the Baima jacket)

Yan Hua stood in the hall and looked around. At this hour, the pce was exceptionally quiet, with only that solitary wooden board hanging there. Yan Hua turned and walked towards the 3rd floor, the red ntern in her hand, leaving a faint glow in the darkness.

The corpse brought by the man with the baima jacket was staying in Room A-11. Yan Hua pushed open the door without hesitation.

The rooms on the 3rd floor are not much different; they are all so exquisite and luxurious, with candlelight flickering, but the presence of death constantly reminds one of the room's purpose.

The dead person lies on the intricately carved bed, her red nails being the most lifelike part of her body. Yan Hua sits at the table, casually pcing the ntern and meat dishes on it.

"Time to eat." Yan Hua picked up a pair of chopsticks and pced a chicken leg into the bowl in front of her.

The dead person, delicate and pale as snow, sat upright without any movement.

Yan Hua merely sneered and walked out of the room.

The dead person's fingers twitched, then twitched again, and slowly sat up, saying, "The food smells delicious today."

A peach blossom-like smile instantly filled the corpse's face. She reached out and picked up the chicken leg, not caring at all that the greasy food stained her beautiful red nails.

"You'll definitely like my cooking," Yan Hua returned.

The dead person's hand froze in midair.

"This chicken leg is really delicious; take your time eating it," Yan Hua said with a smile.

The dead person also smiled, continuing to gnaw at the chicken leg.

Yan Hua watched her, watching her eat, watching her smile, watching the way her teeth bit into the meat.

Yan Hua put down her hands, lowered her head to watch their intertwined fingers, and softly said, "Do you know who I am?"

The dead person's hand paused in mid-air, and she slowly looked at Yan Hua.

  Yan Hua smiled gently.

The dead person y on the table, blood trickling down her greasy lips.

Yan Hua regained her indifference, picked up the dishes on the table, grabbed the red ntern, and walked out of the room.

"Is the job done?" a voice came from behind Yan Hua.

"Done," Yan Hua turned around to look at the other person.

The other baima jacket seems a bit ill-fitting upon closer inspection, and their skin appears a bit too pale, but none of that matters because they are already one of us.

"We still have some people to deal with," Yan Hua said.

"But right now, the most important thing is to find that silver ingot.” The man in baima jacket said faintly.

"Wu Mi, have you made any discoveries these past few days?" Yan Hua suddenly called out the man in the baima jacket's name.

Wu Mi suddenly ughed and said, "I almost forgot I was Wu Mi."

Yan Hua, however, did not ugh, only saying lightly, "But don't forget what you are supposed to do."

"Of course, it's been very calm these past two days; nothing has happened."

The door creaked open, revealing Jia Sanhao.

Yan Hua and Wu Mi exchanged gnces, both stunned. They knew very well that the room housed a real dead person, and that person was Li Bai. But now, this door was open...

"Who..." Wu Mi was the first to stammer, feeling his tongue tie up a bit.

There was no sound; the room held only a dead body. How could a dead person make a sound?

Yan Hua took a step forward, and Wu Mi immediately reached out to pull her back.

"What's there to be afraid of? It's just a dead body. Maybe the door was blown open by the wind," Yan Hua said mockingly as she gnced at Wu Mi. Wu Mi responded with an awkward smile.

But when they stepped into the room, none of them could smile anymore.

  Li Bai was gone.
