Terence Wakes Up

  Terence

  Morning after morning

  Day by day I rise

  Unfulfilled by glory

  With weary noble eyes

  Endless lines of people

  Whom I have to greet

  Shoes that never fit me

  Pinching tired feet

  I'm only thirteen years old

  The son of a duke

The son of the cousin to the King

  I'm only thirteen years old

  Overlooked

Hearing endless queries, sealing envelopes with the royal ring

  Morning after morning

  I rise before the dawn

  Stretch my arms above me

  Squinting as I yawn

Make my way into the woods

  Before the sun can rise

Greeting birds and rocks and trees

  Wearing a disguise

  I'm only thirteen years old

  The son of a duke

The son of the cousin to the King

  I'm only thirteen years old

  Overlooked

But I know what I want

  I want to sing

Humming I make my way towards Grovetown

  Where everybody normally would bow

How my dad would gasp to see me in Grovetown

How he would chastise me if he could see me now

  Singing with the people

  Singing common song

Like "The Lad Who Killed the Captain"

And "The Green Pirate" all along

The road that people work on

All along the road where no one knows me

No one knows who I am

But they're the only ones who know who I am
