The hardened structure that encases the head is indeed its skull, as autopsies performed by mana lasers have proven that the brain lies directly beneath.

  The teeth of the bone-crusher dog are an immediate extension of its skull. The longer that a bone-crusher dog lives, the harder that its skull gets. And therefore, its primary weapon—its teeth—become more lethal.

  Ironically enough, the sound of gunshots excites the bone-crusher dog, evidenced by their wagging, skeletal tail. They will try to eat the bullets if fired upon.
