Prologue

Sirens have been known for centuries. There been known to go around, luring people in with their delicate voices, their scale pattern skin, their beautiful looks. Maybe that's why I always found them so alluring, so beautiful and intriguing.

Sure I could always look at their more sassy, yet friendly counterparts, merfolk, but what joy and mystery would that be? I wanted to learn about their curse, their blessing and the reason why they were hiding out. Not the joys of the plain and quite boring mermaids that filled children's fairytales.

Sirens have been in hiding for decades, chased away from something much bigger than what the naked eye can see. And I want to find out what that inhumane thing is. I want to crack the code and find out where all these intriguing fish have gone.

I guess that's why as a young boy I would spend my days fantasising about the idea of being a hybrid creature. Not a fish and not a human but just the right mixture. I wanted to be something special. Something so known yet so forgotten, so there yet in the shadows.

I would give anything to be that ordinary kid again, even if it meant sacrificing that parasitic girl who's attached at my hip all the time. Even if it meant becoming something, not to go back to the way I was.
