Amen slowly walks out of chamber, looking at his maxed out display.
Ziyad goes around, grabbing what he can.
Aziza is studying everything before her. She then looks at Amen.
"The old Amen would’ve grabbed everything here. Is this the biggest loot you have ever found?"
Amen laughs. "No."
"Really?"
"I’m serious. It’s not."
"Something to do about the Great Pyramid?" Aziza says, eyes darting around Amen's face.
Amen smiles, then turns to his crazy cousin swimming in treasure.
"Ziyad. Don’t take the nicest or the lowest. Just the in-between. No one has been here for hundreds of years.
If you need more, it will be here. Let’s not tell everyone what we found immediately."
Ziyad mimics being Amen with harsh noises and a haughty walk.
"You say that now, and then someone will find all of it! Come on, Amen!"
Amen warns his cousin again, as his display, upon seeing each piece of treasure, tells the dynasty and adds the wealth to Amen's counter, which is already the highest it can go.
"The last thing you need to do is sell some precious piece of history nobody knows anything about. It will just get your head cut off sooner."
Ziyad grabs at his neck with the nub of his cut off hand.
"Fine. You were always smart."
Amen looks around and finds some brilliant, gold bracelets. He waves Aziza over.
He places them delicately over her wrists.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Faces are close.
Amen can see the outline of her heart through her chest.
He then flicks his whole display off. The entire thing. He is shocked he can even do that now, and feels odd there isn't a whole world of information flying around him.
Amen looks at Aziza with his own eyes.
"You and I. We need to talk," Aziza says quietly.
"We need to get out of here. Tombs at night are bad luck. Nothing good happens in here."
Ziyad interrupts. "Bah. Looks good to me. I think I’ll make this my new home. And it is dawn by the way."
Amen looks at his cousin angrily.
"You wouldn’t be able to fit in the crack."
Aziza grabs Amen’s face again, and his attention.
"So no talk?"
Amen shrugs. "We can talk. There won’t be much to say. At least, not from me."
"That is fine. I can do the talking for both of us."
She gently kisses Amen on the cheek and starts to walk away.
"Follow me, boys."
Ziyad shakes his head, treasures falling out of his pockets and satchel. "No! She'll lead us right to a death trap!"
Aziza looks and finds a gold dagger near her and pulls it from its sheath.
"Ziyad, I will cut your genitals off. Speak no more!"
"Please. No. Don't do that."
Amen laughs as they start to walk.
They walk back through the caverns and past the traps and all the things in the darkness.
Amen's display is still off. A welcome break.
Light is breaking from the crack in the ceiling where they started.
"See. Not so bad," Aziza says, crawling to the top.
Ziyad mimics Aziza crawling up to the crack, and she disappears.
Ziyad double checks he has his goods. He then winks at his cousin.
They embrace.
"Amen. You did. You always do it."
Ziyad smiles, and then he crawls up.
Amen is last. He quietly climbs up the rocks, hearing some commotion outside.
Ziyad and Aziza are fighting again.
He looks around the massive find again, then he crawls through the crack in the ceiling.
Amen comes out, and is immediately punched across the face.
