New Beginnings

Amen and Ziyad run as ancient walls and columns and obelisks fall and collapse before them.

Sand swallows their enemies who chase after them.

Amen leaps and jumps and crawls on falling and collapsing floors and walls, as his XP soars.

Ziyad runs with a brutal and heightened speed that Amen cannot keep up with.

Soon, they come to the main ramp entrance as the sand tries swallowing them for one last time.

All the survivors turn and watch as the temple is slowly falling upon it self over and over, violently eaten by the earth.

Soon, just a few edges of walls and pillars stick out from the sand in the shape of a strange rock formation, lost forever.

Ziyad chuckles as he does a dance, his treasure falling from his clothes.

  Amen tosses him the map.

Mostafa and his surviving warriors come forward.

Amen embraces him and looks into his eyes.

"Thank you, friend. We are even."

"No," Mostafa corrects. "Forever, my master. I told you."

"That's quite the deal, cousin," Ziyad says.

"Forever," Mostafa repeats. "Also for you, brave Ziyad."

"We will speak of my terms later. We must go. All of Pharaoh's elite are incoming." Ziyad points.

Dust is moving from chariots are horses coming their way.

Mostafa nods and calls out a command to his men, and they are soon away.

  "What about us?!" Amen asks.

"Oh, the woman never obeys," Ziyad says, as Aziza comes forward, bringing the most beautiful camels of Cairo with her.

Amen smiles as he sees her.

"Find the scroll?" She asks, not really caring about it, still staring at Amen.

"Indeed. And a few other things," Ziyad declares.

Amen and Aziza just stare at one another.

"Still want to talk?" Amen asks.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

  She nods.

"I have a place," Amen says, as he mounts his camel and Ziyad his, and they take off.

Amen opens the small door to his hiding hut.

The jar still lays there, crumbled from when he broke it and it all began.

  Dust around.

Bags of money and provisions and weapons and some special treasures line the small, one room, hideaway deep in Cairo.

"Why don't you pick up the jar?!" Ziyad exclaims.

  Amen looks at it.

The pieces of it still glow in Amen's eyes.

The room itself shows information of every exploit. A constant list of steals and points and trophies scroll by.

  His safe room.

"We used to have many of these," Aziza says, looking at the safe room.

"It's the last one," Amen says, motioning for them to sit in his modest chairs, and goes to reach for some edible refreshments.

"What's the plan? We must get out of Egypt!" Ziyad says excitedly. "All three of us!"

"Agreed," Aziza says. "We must stick together."

  Amen nods. "What direction?!"

"North!" Ziyad says. "I know where we can start! New beginnings!"

  Amen's displays briefly flash.

  IMMINENT DANGER.

  ALL XP USESLESS.

  POWER GONE.

They only showed that once before.

Suddenly, the door to their safe house is kicked open.

  WARRIORS emerge.

Larger, scarier, and stronger than the Madjay we’ve seen.

These are the elite of the Madjay. The highest lieutenants and generals of it. The ones who had one boss and one boss only.

Their armor is gold. Their insignia tells all who they work for.

Ziyad and Aziza immediately put their hands up.

  Amen does not.

They don't even bother with the other two.

Amen is grabbed violently but not lethally, and a sack is put over his head and his carried away.

  "Just me." Amen says.

  Not a question.

  "Just you." The guard declares.

"Turn around!" A guard yells at Aziza and Ziyad.

They briefly do, and touch hands.

"We'll die together." Ziyad says bravely.

Aziza nods, tears coming from her eyes.

  Deep breath.

  No impact.

  No sword.

  No pain.

  They turn.

The room is left empty with the door open, sunlight breaking through.

Aziza goes to the door to see where the elite guards went.

  Already gone, without a trace.

She leans on the door and cries.
