Dawn breaks.
The desert heat will be overwhelming today.
Amen jumps off his camel.
New robes and weapons on his body.
Pharaoh's best.
His displays ringing, full of information.
Amen looks up at the Great Pyramid before him, and the Sphinx, not too far from the front of it.
Guards and Bedouins are moving in to their place for the day.
Camels are walking aimlessly.
Amen stretches and takes a deep breath.
"I want to talk to you."
Nothing.
"Now."
Still nothing.
"I know you can hear me. I'm done. I've done enough for you. I will forfeit title of King of Thieves. I don't care. Get out of my eyes. Get out of my head. I'm done playing."
Nothing.
"I'm doing this and saving my cousin and Aziza and you will never hear from me again. Reveal yourself! Talk to me!"
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
The displays fade briefly, and a vibrating wall appears.
"What were you saying?"
As the voice in his head speaks, the vibrating wall in Amen's eyes vibrates and sways in audio waves.
"I'm done. This is not a game. This is my life."
"Just like that?"
"Yes. You've had years of whatever this is. I'm done. I'm doing this last thing and I'm done."
"You'll need my help to get back in there again."
The Great Pyramid glows behind the sound waves.
"No, I don't. I'll do it on my own. I'm done. Leave me alone."
"No more numbers? No more power?"
"No. I'm done."
The sound wave does not move for a moment.
"Fine. Have it your way."
"Wait," Amen asks. "NPC. What does it stand for?"
"Non playable character."
Amen does not respond to the answer.
Suddenly, like the power is pulled from him and he is born again, Amen screams as the display shatters.
Colors and sounds and waves and information explode and shatter and compile around him.
Nauseating sounds of distortion and reverb and robotic like commands fill his head to the brim of exploding.
His body shakes and he falls to the ground.
Still.
He looks up and sees the world in his own eyes.
Moves his fingers. Does a flip in place.
All seems well.
Amen smiles, free from the torturous display and game in his head.
He adjusts his hood and runs towards the pyramid.
As Amen runs, information is still floating around him, counting every step and move.
He just can't see it.
the end.
