Chapter 112: The Strategy for quering the World of Higurashi
Hearing Mion’s proposal, everyone was stunned. After a moment, Satoko spoke up, somewhat uneasily.
“Mion, the teacher really join us?”
“Of course, Teacher Alex be our advisor. Most clubs have an advisor teacher!”
“Even if I bee your advisor, you won’t have any club funds to use.”
Alex, of course, wouldn’t pass up on Mion’s invitation. He had already been thinking of ways to ie himself into the main group, and now that an opportunity had preseself, he wasn’t going to let it slip by.
“o worry about funds. Little Mion’s family is known as wealthy ndlords.”
Rika spoke up cheerfully at this point, but Alex could sense a hint of wariness and curiosity in her gaze.
It made sense whehought about it. In some ways, Rika was no different from Tom Cruise’s character in Edge of Tomorrow, having experienced hundreds of loops. However, Tom had it slightly better as an adult without physical limitations—he only cked experiend awareness. Rika, oher hand, was small and physically weak, uo do much. Aside from her ability to loop, she was virtually powerless. Truth be told, Alex felt gey for Rika. A child who had looped hundreds of times, experieng the fear of death over and over but uo find a way to escape—just thinking about it could bring tears to one’s eyes.
To Rika, this world was merely one of tless loops she had experienced, but now, there was a new person who had never appeared in her many cycles. It would be strange if Rika didn’t react at all.
“In that case, I accept your invitation, Mion, and will take on the role of advisor... By the way, what’s the name of our club?”
“Huh?”
Hearing Alex’s question, everyone was taken aback. Keiichi scratched his head and looked curiously at the others.
“That’s true, I don’t kher. Our club should have a name, right?”
“Ugh... we never really thought about a name.”
“e on, Mion! Think of ht now!”
“Even if you tell me to think of one now... how about the Game Club?”
“Too pin! It sounds outdated!”
“Ugh... ugh...”
“e on! You do it, Mion!”
Seeing Mion clutg her head and groaning in frustration, the girls around her cheered her on. Unfortunately, Mion didn’t seem to have a knack for naming things. Finally, she let out a defeated cry and colpsed onto the desk like she had exploded.
“No good, I ’t think of any he ones I do think of are just too ordinary.”
“Mion, you’re really hopeless…”
“Ugh…”
Hearing Rena’s ent, Mion puffed up her cheeks in defiahen, her eyes lit up, and she quickly turo Alex.
“Right, let’s have Teacher Alex name our club! Since you’re our advisor now, we’ll leave this to you!”
As expected of a successor to one of the Three Great Families, Mion was an expert at passing the buck, mastering the art like a seasoned politi. Alex mentally gave Mion a “badge” for this skill. After a moment of thought, Alex spoke up.
“Then, how about we call it the School Life Club?”
“School...”
“... Life Club?”
“That sounds pretty good.”
“Then it’s decided. From today onward, our club will be called the School Life Club!”
With Mion’s decration, the name was officially set.
After that, everyohe school, chatting and ughing as they went home. Alex returo his room in the school—a former infirmary that now served as his temporary living space. It was actually quite suitable, equipped with a fridge and a gas stove, suffit for daily needs.
As the suhe night deepened. Looking out the window, Alex saw that the fields were cloaked in darkness, with only the pale glow of streetlights along the paths adding an eerie touch, creating an atmosphere remi of rural ghost stories. But Alex wasn’t afraid of such things. Although he couldn’t use the power of soul stones in this world, he could still rely on his own strength. Not to mention his body had been modified with Zerg enhas. Even without the Royal Cross Swordsmanship, the magic he had learned was more than enough to handle any crisis here.
Relying solely on strength would never be enough in a world desigo test the mind and spirit.
Should I be thankful that the Codex didn’t throw me into the world of Danganronpa instead?
Alex sighed as he picked up a bnk card and begag and writing on it. As the advisor of the “School Life Club,” he had promised Mion ao create a new game for the club. This wasn’t a for Alex; as a game designer, he knew plenty of tabletop games, even simple ones. Besides, it was the 1980s—a time when information was scarce. Creating a game that would satisfy everyone was an easy task for him.
However, for Alex, the real challenge wasn’t just making a game—it was figuring out how to “clear” this world.
In the world of Higurashi When They Cry, there were reasons behind everyone’s dest into madness. For Alex, the most insignifit of these was Takano Miyo, the primary antagonist. She relied purely on violent as, which didn’t worry Alex at all. Violence was something he could hah ease, so as the ultimate “boss” of this world, Takano Miyo was the least of his s.
What truly troubled Alex were the problems that couldn’t be solved through violence.
The plot of Higurashi When They bsp;was clear: out of the five main characters, three would reach a breaking point due to overwhelming pressure and go berserk, itting murder. The best solution for Alex was to elimihe roots of their darkness, which was the most challenging part.
The root cause was the Houjou family.
Iory, the crucial background was that the gover had ono build a dam in Hinamizawa, but the vilgers didn’t want to leave their homes. This led to a division in the vilge between those who supported the dam and those who opposed it. The Houjou family sided with the pro-dam fa.
In the end, the anti-dam fa won, and the gover scrapped the project. The Houjou family, having backed the losing side, became outcasts and were branded as traitors. While traveling, the Houjou parents died after falling from a cliff, leaving their two children—Houjou Satoshi and Satoko—to be taken in by their abusive uncle’s family.
Their life was far from happy. In fact, the uncle’s family stantly abused Satoshi and Satoko. Uo e any longer, Satoshi killed their aunt to protect Satoko. Soon after, he was taken away for treatment due to the o of “Hinamizawa Syndrome,” which ublicly stated as a trao another school—essentially making him disappear.
Mion’s younger sister, Shion Sonozaki, who had always been in love with Satoshi, was in a plicated position. The Sonozaki family, one of the Three Great Families of Hinamizawa, had led the effort to ostracize the Houjou family. It was like the cssic stories of wealthy ndowners oppressing poor schors, where the ndlord’s daughter falls for the schor.
Of course, Romeo and Juliet ended in tragedy, so the oute for Satoshi and Shion, a rural, downgraded version, was even more hopeless. Especially since Shion’s love was one-sided, practically raising every tragic fg from the saddest novels.
After Satoshi’s disappearance, Shion believed that her family had killed him. This belief tributed to her nearly ungeable dark fate—carrying her own pain while the person she loved had vanished. Shion was arguably the most likely to desd into madness in the Higurashi world.
Satoko’s situation was simir. Alex clearly remembered that ier part of the story, Satoko had begun to live a peaceful life, only for her ueppei Houjou’s return to shatter that illusion. The once-happy daily life disied into darkness and despair.
For this reason, Alex sidered these two issues the hardest to resolve. While Keiichi Maebara’s and Rena Ryuugu’s issues could be prevented, Shion Sonozaki’s and Satoko Houjou’s problems were far more difficult. These were “historical issues” that couldn’t be easily resolved by Alex’s intervention.
From Alex’s perspective, the best solution would be to kill Teppei Houjou. He had the strength and fideo eeppei met with an “act.” But Alex didn’t dare take that route. Each world had its own rules, and he had a vague feeling that if he killed Teppei, his fate might not be aer than Keiichi’s when he succumbed to madness.
In Alex’s eyes, this world was even harder to hahan Dark Souls, which restricted the use of overpowered abilities but still revolved around bat. This world, however, seemed to disce violeogether, except in self-defense. Any other use of force seemed to invite some sort of backsh.
So this truly is a world meant to test the heart and mind, huh? High bat strength means nothing if it ’t be used.
Alex shook his head at the thought. Just as he was about to resume his work, he heard something that made his ears twitch slightly.
“Tap... tap... tap...”
Behind him, in the dark corridor, came a series of slow footsteps, drawing closer and closer. Soon, they stopped just outside his door, and then—silence.
Well, if you say this isn’t haunted, I wouldn’t believe it.
Alex sighed helplessly, then stood up and walked to the door. With a soft “click,” he unlocked and opehe previously locked door, smiling as he looked at the figure standing outside.
“May I ask, what brings you here so te at night?”
