Chapter 11: A day in the park.
Lamar sat on the bench, he checked his watch, it was late afternoon.
"Late as usual." He said out loud.
"Whose late?" A voice said from behind.
Lamar turned around and saw the one he pushed away. Christopher stood six feet tall, he was built like a Greek statue, light brown skin, and long black hair. He smiled that smile that Lamar loved so much.
"You are," Lamar said turning back around on the bench.
"I'm like a minute late." Chris said as he walked around, Lamar didn't get up so Chris just sat down next to him.
"So what's up, what was so urgent you needed to see me right away." Lamar took a deep breath and told Chris the plan they had to take down the Eastside royal vampires.
"Wow, okay, um, sure why not." Chris said smiling.
"Wait you're just going to say yes like that, you don't want to take sometime to think about it first?" Lamar was skeptical of him agreeing so quickly.
"What is there to think about, get rid of some vamps, the wolves gain more land, and you now will owe me one." He laughed.
"Two out of three is so bad." Lamar said back. Chris laughed again.
"You know we could of had this conversation at my house." Chris suggested.
"No the park is more safer." Lamar replied.
"You would of been safe at my house."
"Not that kind of safe." Lamar turned away and looked out towards the playground. It was oddly empty he thought for this time of day. As he took a look around he noticed that there were not that many people in the park at all. And the people that were there were all adults. He heard a low growl come from his left.
"We got company." Chris said, his eyes now a bright orange.
"We can't use our powers out in the open like this, do not transform." Lamar demanded.
"Take a better look around none of these people are human."
Lamar did as he said and he realized that Chris was right. How didn't he notice he thought, all these supernatural beings in one spot should of set off some kind of alert with his powers. He closed his eyes and concentrated, a large wolf jump at Lamar from behind, but Chris was to fast for it, he snatched the snarling wolf out of the air and slammed it to the ground. The wolf let out a large whimper. Lamar opened his eyes, Chris had the wolf by the neck pinned to the ground.
"It's an Arcane mage helping, that's why I didn't sense anything, whoever it is also put a vail over the park."
"A vail? What is that?" The wolf scrummed under Chris's hand, but Chris was way to strong for it, it was not getting away.
"Like a smoke screen, unless you're inside of it you won't be able to see what's going on. They probably also used another spell to keep people away."
"So let's run then."
"Problem two, we aren't going to be able to get out the veil if the mage is actively keeping it up." There are two types of veils, one type is one you can just put up and leave, it's not as strong as the second type and normally used in an emergency. The second type is when a mage is keeping the spell going, it's much stronger and practically impenetrable. This was bad, they were surrounded by a small werewolf pack and their pet wolf. Chris picked the wolf up he had pinned down and through it across the park.
"Well that was not nice." A tall woman with long red hair, wearing a tank top showing off her muscular arms and many tattoos was speaking to them.
"Melissa, why am I not shocked. I kind of figured you were going to try something like this," Chris said.
"You made it so easy, your leadership has been very questionable lately, I mean you didn't even care when our scouts were attacked by those vamps last month, but when your little dusker friend here comes calling you go running like a good little doggy."
"So what you are going to lead the pack now?" Chris asked.
"I can do a way better job then you."
Lamar tried to use his telekinesis to throw the mostly concrete bench at her but it didn't even budge. "Shit." He whispered.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
"What's wrong?"
"This veil is a lot stronger than I thought, I can't use my offensive magic."
"You. How's is that even possible?"
"They must have a few mages working together." Lamar sat down on the bench and grabbed his bag from the side of it. He grabbed a pair of twenty-one inch pure silver sais with the handle wrapped in a black silk. He sat them down on the bench, he also grabbed a clear bottle with smoke swirling around inside. He smashed the bottle and the smoke took the form of Lamar.
"Find the gap and then find the mages and take them out." He ordered. The form turned back into smoke he flew off on it's task.
"What was that?"
"It's a spell I'm working on called doppelg?nger. It can't use magic but it is strong and fast. It probably wont be able to take out the mages but as long as it can break their concertation I might be able to use magic to break the veil." Lamar said.
"Are you two ladies giving up or are we going to fight, I still need to get a lift in before the day is over with." Melissa said.
"RRRRROOOOAAAARRRR!" Chris transformed, it was his second form, it was a mixture of wolf and human. His eyes were bright orange, his nails were now razor sharp claws strong enough to cut through metal. He had sharp fangs and his ears were now pointy. His face was more wolf like as well, with his nose looking like a snout and hair all over his face.
"Don't you think you should go full wolf?" Lamar said as he grabbed his sais off the bench and stood up.
"I can't." Chris admitted.
"Awww, is someone having trouble in getting it all the way up," Melissa antagonized.
"What's wrong?"
"Don't know."
Melissa was sick of waiting her and the other four werewolves she brought with her fully transformed, their clothes ripped and tore, and were hanging off of them, they growled and howled as they became full werewolves, large hairy beast standing on two legs, twice there size in their human form. Razor sharp claws and teeth, face more wolf like than Chris's.
"This is bad." Chris said.
"You think!" Lamar replied.
The werewolves charged at them except for Melissa, she stood back and waited.
A fury of claw strikes came their way, Lamar blocked with his sais the best he could, but wasn't able to block all the strikes. His left arm had huge claw mark going down it from shoulder to elbow, he dodged another strike and followed up with he's sai, gashing the wolf across the face. It let out a howl of pain. Chris was fairing better he already had took out one of the werewolves without a mark on him. He was in the middle of fighting the second and third werewolf when Melissa jumped on his back and sank her fangs into his shoulder. Chris screamed, he dug his claws into her back and hipped tossed her off of him into the other two werewolves. He fell to as a knee, and grabbed his shoulder where she bite him. Lamar tried to run to his side when he was lifted off the ground by his neck. He dropped one of his sais. The werewolf he was fighting recovered from the strike and now was holding Lamar up in the air like it was nothing. Lamar grabbed at the werewolf's claws trying to break it's grip but he couldn't get a good grip himself.
"Let him go!" Chris yelled still kneeled down.
"Not going to happen, bite his head off." Melissa ordered.
The wolf pulled Lamar in closer ready to bite, Lamar took the other sai he still had a hold of and stabbed the werewolf in it's bicep, it howled and dropped Lamar, he fell to the ground coughing and gasping for air. Melissa grabbed Chris by the head and kneed him in the face, breaking his nose. He fell down fully.
"Hold him." Melissa ordered the other two werewolves he was fighting, they did as they were told. Melissa made her way over to Lamar, she picked up by his shirt and slammed him on the bench knocking the wind out of him. She then began tossing him around and slamming him on the ground over and over. Chris couldn't do anything but watch, he was two weak to fight off the grip of the other two werewolves.
"Stop it, you're going to kill him." Chris choked out. Melissa just laughed and continued her assault.
"I'll give you the pack!" Chris shouted.
"You have to be kidding me," she dropped Lamar on the ground he landed on his back. "You're seriously going to give up the pack for this dusker. Some king you are, fine but you know what this mean right."
Lamar eyes was almost swollen shut, but he was able to see the small flicker in the sky. The veil is down he thought. He rolled over on to his stomach.
"My turn bitch."
"What was that." Melissa said turning around to face him.
"Lighting hear me, strike now!" A streak of blue light came crackling down from the sky hitting Melissa in the chest leaving a large hole. She fell to the ground, no longer moving. She transformed back into her human form. The werewolf that Lamar stabbed in the arm charged him. But he barley made it a few feet when he was struck in the chest by and silver head arrow, followed by another one. The werewolf fell to the ground and as well transformed into his human form. The two werewolves that were holding Chris let him go and took off running, transforming back into there human form as they did. The veil was replaced, Chris crawled over to Lamar who was barely conscious. He grabbed Lamar's bag and dug through it, he was happy that Lamar still allowed him to be able to look through his bag. He grabbed a healing potion and made Lamar drink it. He then grabbed one for himself and did the same. Their wounds begun to heal, but it was going to take a few minutes before they will be healed enough to move, and they wont be fully healed until tomorrow. Chris propped Lamar up on the bench and sat next to him, Lamar rested his head on his shoulder, Chris winced, that was the shoulder that Melissa bit.
"Sorry." Lamar coughed.
"It's fine." Chris said putting Lamar's head back on his shoulder.
"We can sit here for awhile, I replaced the veil."
"What happened? Where did those arrows come from?" Chris wondered.
"I'm not sure but who ever they came from I'm thankful."
"You know this reminds me of our first date." Chris said
"How?"
"Well not all the blood and damn near dying, but the sitting on the bench part." Chris chuckled and then groined in pain.
Lamar phoned rang.
"Hello."
"Thank goodness you're okay," Daniel said, "When we didn't hear from you in awhile I had Serenity send out a blast to all duskers to see if there were any in the area. That one husband and wife dusker team answered. They took out those mages that were using the veil.
"Thanks."
"You need me to come and get you?" Daniel asked.
"No we should be good in a few hours, I put up another veil so we should be good."
"Also what is this smoke monster that looks like you the McKinney's were saying.
"I'll explain it to you later." Lamar hung up the phone.
"Hey Lamar." Chris said.
"What's up?"
"What are we going to do with all these bodies?"
