Chapter 19: Let’s Kill The King

Chapter 19: Let’s Kill The King.

Roberto walked into Elle still sitting in the rocking chair holding the baby. She put a finger up to her lips so he wouldn’t wake the baby or Crystal. She got up put the baby in the bassinet and grabbed the baby monitor and they walked out into the market. She handed Roberto the baby monitor and they took a seat on a bench outside of Madam Chans.

“How are you doing?” She asked him.

“Hanging on I guess; things could be worse.” He replied.

“How much worse can it get?” She laughed.

“I guess you’re right.” He chuckled.

“I was able to get in touch with a friend who can get you guys some new identities and a safe place to stay for the time being, so whenever you guys are ready to get out of here just let me know. I know Crystal would like to sleep in a regular bed and get the baby out of that stockroom.”

“Elle can you do me a favor, can you take Crystal and the baby to your friend and also stay with them until I give you the all good. I need to stay here and take care of somethings, things that I can’t do and worry about them at the same time. I know you would do everything in your power to protect them.”

“Things like your father?” She asked.

  “Nail, head.” He replied.

“Of course I will, but don’t you think it’s better for you to be with them?”

“Yeah I do, but I also know if we don’t stop my dad then he will continue to come after us until he kills all three of us and I can’t take that chance. I’m going to help Lamar and the others take down the vampires.

  “All the vampires?” She asked.

“If we take out all the factions then it should loosen the hold they have over Toledo, maybe even make this place safer.”

“That wont work, there is a delicate balance and even though you vampire factions can be quite dangerous, you are needed. You keep the unpure in check for the most part.” She acknowledged.

“I guess that is true, but I discuss this more with the guys but in the meantime I’m about to go break the news to Crystal about the new plan.” Roberto got up and walked back into the shop.

  “Hey.” He lightly shook Crystal.

“Is the baby okay.” She woke up in a panic.

“The baby is fine,” he laughed. “He is sound asleep.”

“Oh thank goodness, I didn’t mean to fall asleep, I just been so tired.” She wiped the sleep from her eyes.

“Stop, you don’t need to explain yourself, you deserve all the rest you can get. Elle didn’t mind watching after RJ and she even said she was happy you were able to get some rest.”

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“She has been such a big help, they all have to be honest, I don’t know how we ever can repay them. I mean look at all the stuff we have for him because of them.” Crystal was on the verge of tears, even though they were not in an ideal space, she still felt blessed to have a healthy baby boy and people that care as much as they did.

“I need to talk to you about something. My father is not going to stop coming after us. I don’t want to have to raise a baby constantly looking over our shoulders for the next attack. Elle got us some new identification and a place we can go.”

  “But?” She said.

“But I want to finish this, if we get rid of my father than we don’t have anything to worry about, we can get married and raise RJ like a normal family.”

“We are far from normal, but with that being said, I get it, I know this is something you need to do. I assume you have a separate plan for RJ and me?”

“You two are going to go with Elle, she is going to stay with you until all this is over. Then I’ll send for you two.” Roberto started to get RJ a bag together. They were leaving right away. Crystal got up and helped him, she didn’t trust him to put the right things in.

“What’s this,” Roberto said picking up a long case.

“Oh something from Lamar, he said it was for my protection, I haven’t looked at it yet.” Crystal explained as she packed some diapers in a bag.

  “Can I open it?”

  “I don’t care.”

“It’s a shotgun,” Roberto grabbed the shotgun and his hand immediately felt like he was holding lava, he dropped the gun and winced in pain blowing on his hand. He muffled his scream in order not to wake the baby.

“What’s wrong,” she ran over to see his hand sizzling and smoking, “what happened?”

“That damn gun burnt me!” He yelled.

“Keep your voice down, let me see you hand.” She pulled out a healing potion out of the diaper bag and poured it over his hand. The pain started to subside and his hand begun to heal.

“Why would he give you a gun that would burn you?”

“You know what now that I think about it he might of said not to let you touch it, something about it can hurt vampires, and I was thinking yeah of course it can it’s a shotgun.” She laughed and went back to packing the diaper bag.

Roberto just stared at her, he was about to say something when Elle walked in.

“Why does it smell like burning flesh in here?” Elle said walking into the stockroom.

  “Don’t ask.” Replied Roberto angrily.

“Okay,” Elle rolled her eyes at him, “Crystal are you ready?”

“Just got to pack a few more things for the baby and then I’ll be ready to go.”

Crystal packed up the rest of the things she thought she needed, grabbed RJ, gave Roberto a kiss and promised to call him to let him know they were okay once she got settled.

"I’ll keep them safe." Elle promised as they walked out the door.

Roberto sat on the air mattress he took a deep breath and begun to cry, ever emotion he was feeling hit him all at once, he couldn't stand the fact that he got Crystal into all of this, when they first met he told himself that this wasn't going to go anywhere, but he fell in love with her and now he can't see his life without her in it.

What should he do he thought, killing his father is the best option, but what about his mother and brother, what will they do when they find out what he has done. Has his father already talked to his mother about Crystal and what happened at the diner? His father and mother relationship was an arranged one to keep the bloodline pure, with his mother’s father once being the king, his mother is strong and maybe even more dangerous than his father. Roberto calmed himself and got himself together so he could go meet up with Lamar and the others to see if they came up with any type of plan. Roberto started to walk out the door when his phone rung. It was his mother, he hesitated before he answered.

“Hey mom.” He tried to talk as if nothing was going on or that anything was wrong.

“So I hear I’m going to be a grandmother.”

“I take it you talked with dad.”

“I talked, he mostly yelled and broke things, mainly things in your old room.”

“Do I have to worry about you now as well?” He asked nervously.

“Meet me at the spot I use to take you as a child.”

  “Why?”

“Because I’m going to help you kill your father.” The phone went dead.
