Chapter 22: The Plan

  Chapter 22: The Plan

  “Daniel!”

Lamar threw up a small barrier over the broken window as they rushed to his side. Daniel groaned and felt his head, the warm sticky liquid covering his hand. It was a graze, nothing life threatening, Lamar grabbed a healing potion and made Daniel chug it, the head wound begun to slowly close.

“What the hell was that I thought they were backing off.” Mycal said as he helped Daniel up off the floor.

“I don’t think that was supposed to happen, look there.” Sean said pointing out the window.

“Truman was holding up a dusker by the throat screaming in the duskers face, anger radiated off Truman, the dusker looked as if he was going to pass out. Truman threw the dusker to the ground like he was throwing away a piece of trash.

“That guy must be new, shooting all wild like that and not getting the command from Truman. There is a veil up there is no way he could see in here to know where any of us is standing.” Lamar said.

“Should we fire back?” Daniel asked wiping the blood from his face with his shirt.

“If we do that then they might just rush in, the guy was firing blind there is no way he knew where you were, lets just chill for a moment and see what they do next.” Mycal suggested. They all agreed. Daniel went to the bathroom to get cleaned up properly, Mycal called his wife, and Lamar did an inventory of their supplies, he wanted to be prepared just in case this got out of hand.

An hour went by, and the enforcers were still in a holding pattern. The safe house was out in the country, there were no other houses for miles, so the enforces didn’t have to worry about someone calling the police seeing a bunch of people standing in front of a house with weapons. They could sit out there all night if they wanted to and there was nothing stopping them for doing so either.

“How long do you think they are just going to wait out there?” Sean asked Lamar, who was starring out the window intently.

“See that guy right there,” Lamar said pointing at an short old white guy with a long white beard.

“The guy that looks like a hobbit.” Sean replied.

“His name is Fin Lander, and he is a powerful mage, I’m sure he been working on a way to bring down my veil. Once that happens, they are going to come in.” Lamar said looking at the group.

They sat in silence as forty-five more minutes passed. Lamar continued to stare out the window. His mana was almost fully restored, he could strengthen the veil give them a little more time, but that would be a waste of mana he thought.

“You think it’s been long enough, should we just turn ourselves in?” Lamar asked the group.

“Not yet, let’s give it a few and then do it.” Sean said.

“I still don’t understand why Elle would want us to do so, she has to know that the council is going to sentence us to death more than likely.” Daniel said. His wound was fully healed, and he was now wearing a clean shirt.

“Do you really think they are going to sentence us to death?” Lamar said, you could hear the fear in his voice.

“We went after royals and exposed ourselves to the public, I don’t see any other way for them to save face but to kill us.” Sean said, but he hoped he was wrong.

“I’m not going out like that, I have too much to live for and I’m not about to die after getting a second chance at life.”

“Mycal we can’t fight the council.” Sean said.

“Why can’t we, because they are supposed to be oh so powerful. We aren’t some weaklings you know; I’m not saying it’s going to be easy; I’m just saying it isn’t impossible.” Mycal attitude was different now, he was almost himself again after the run in with the king.

There was silence in the room, was he right they thought, could they win in a fight against the council. There were 8 council members and all of them are supposed to be the strongest in their respect class, but how was this strength measured.

“I agree, the council isn’t like it used to be back in the day when it was first created, now it’s a popularity contest, the duskers that are on there now, who to say they are stronger than us.” Daniel commented.

“If we are going to do this, we are going to need a plan, we can’t half ass something like this, we aren’t going to have any of our weapons or anything else to fight with and we are going to be cuffed so our powers are going to be practically non-existent, we have to play this one smart.” Sean said taking a seat on the couch. Lamar left the window and joined the group; he sat on the floor near the TV.

“So what are you thinking?” Mycal asked Sean.

“The trial is going to be bull so we already know that, so our best bet is to breakout before we even go to trial. The guards they are going to have watching us is going to be our biggest problem, we are going to need our weapons once we get the cuffs off.”

“I can take care of that, I’ve been working on a spell, almost like the one on my bag where I created a small pocket dimension for it to be able to hold more stuff.” Lamar added.

“You can do that out of thin air?” Sean said surprised.

“No not exactly, I’m going to create a doorway, or in this case a cabinet way to my bag where the weapons are and a couple of other things. I can’t keep it open for long yet so I have to be quick about it.”

“Once Lamar get our weapons we have to fight our way out of there.”

“What about the enforcers, don’t you think they will be watching us?” Daniel said.

“It’s possible, but the only one we need to worry about is Truman and Fin the others will be easy to take care of, so if anyone has any suggestions on how we do that I’m all ears.” Sean said.

I’ll take care of Fin, Mycal you worry about Truman.” Lamar suggested

Mycal silent, Truman trained Mycal, he knows all his moves and his strength, he was their best shot against him if Lamar was going to be fighting Fin.

“So what is the point of us waiting, why not fight them now and make a run for it?” Daniel asked the group.

“Elle said not to, she must have her reasons why. Also I think it’s been long enough. It’s dark out. Lamar do what you need to do with your bag to set up our weapons and then take down the veil, lets get this over with.

“Lamar did as he was instructed, a few moments later the veil came down, they all fist bumped and headed for the door, one by one they all walked out with their hands high in the air.

“Hey boys.” There stood Elle with her boot on Truman’s neck. The other enforcers were out cold.

“Lets go!” Crystal popped her head out of an all-black passenger van.

They all piled into the van; Elle went around the Enforcer’s trucks with a few precises whistle busting the tires. Crystal smashed on the gas, and they were out of there.

“What are you guys doing here?” Lamar said excited.

“You didn’t think I was going to leave you guys to rot, why did you think I told you to hold off on turning yourselves in, I needed time to get here.” Elle said.

“There was no way I was letting her do this alone, as much as you guys did for me and Rob, I had to pay you guys back.” Crystal said as she sped down the empty country road.

  “Where is the baby?”

“He is safe with my dad in a safe house of Elle’s that no one knows anything about.”

“You guys shouldn’t of came, we had a plan to get out of this, you just put yourselves in danger and now on the council’s radar.”

“You let me worry about the council, you still have a king to take out.” Elle said.

“Are you crazy? We need to get out of town, not go after the king.” Daniel said.

“You think the king is going to let us slide for what happened at the diner, then the fact the police wasn’t able to do his dirty work for him, he is the biggest threat we have right now. The council can be taken care of with out having to fight them physically. If you guys succeed in taking out the king, you’ll have a lot more duskers on your side. The council has been shady for awhile now, they can’t be trusted. Any of them.” Elle was even referring to her exe husband in this case as well.

“What about the news report, there is no way we can hide from that.” Sean said.

“Serenity was able to erase the video, but it is the internet so nothing is ever truly gone she said, she also said she will right a program to monitor for the video and every time it pops up it will erase it.” Elle said.

“That girl is a true genius.” Mycal said, as he was getting ready to use his phone, but Elle stopped him before he could dial a number. She gave them all little flip phones, that were untraceable, another gift from Serenity. She told them to only use these phones for now and to turn off the other ones and hand them over. She put all their phones, including hers and Crystal’s into a silver bag that was able to block a cell signal and stashed the bag under the seat of the van. They drive for a few more hours until they made it to Elle’s safe house, it wouldn’t of took as long as it did but Crystal drove all around just in case they were being followed. It was midnight and everyone was tired except for Lamar and Elle who sat on the porch as the others found a place to sleep.

“Thanks for coming to get us.” Lamar said to Elle.

“No problem, but this is a real mess you boys then got yourselves into.”

“Who you telling, if I would of just took my break in my office at work and not at my truck I would of never ran into Roberto and we would of never be in this mess. Your diner wouldn’t look like a war zone. And…

“And Crystal and her baby would be dead.” Elle interrupted him. “There is a reason for everything, you boys are the future of the duskers, whatever happens next is up to you.”

“Do you really think we can stop the king and the council?”

“Don’t worry about the council, I’ll handle them. As for the king, of course I do. It’s not going to be easy but I have all the faith in the world.”

  “I’m glad someone does.”

“Let me ask you something Lamar.”

  “Shoot.”

“Are you going to stop holding back.” The question caught Lamar off guard. He has been holding back, he still been using the excuse of no one needs to know about him being a 5th class. It was an automatic death sentence.

“If they find out about me then I’m done for, you know that.” Lamar said.

“Baby you are already in it, it’s not point in holding back still. You need to use that power you have to protect yourself and your bothers. I know you are scared of what you can do.”

“I’m not scared of what I can do, I’m just worried that I’ll fail you guys in some way.” Lamar admitted.

“Sweetheart failure is apart of life, you’re going to have to let that type of thinking go, you can’t keep stifling yourself. Just take some time to think about it all, I’m about to head to bed, don’t stay out here to long.” Elle got up and gave Lamar a kiss on the forehead and headed inside.

Lamar took out his phone and dialed a number from memory.

“Hello.” A voice from the other end said in a gruff tone, sounding like they were just woken up.

  “Can we meet?” Lamar asked.

  “Sure.” Said councilman Savage.
