An unplanned meeting

The Wayfarer family was just sitting down to dinner when they heard the knock on the door. It was odd to have travelers entering the village after dark when the gate was closed. The inn was empty that night, the adventurers had been called to the capital a fortnight ago.

“Stay here” Civil told his wife to stay knowing she would grab her minor mage staff and follow. He pulled broadsword out from its sheath from where it hung on the wall. Civil left their private dining area he had built into the second floor when he built the inn. He heard abby following him three steps behind

When he got to the top of the stairs on impulse he looked through the peep while he had installed to look down on the tavern he saw the king's magus sitting at a table drinking tea from a pot that did not belong to the tavern. He had once seen him on a trip to the capital with his father back then he had a grim look on his face and conversed with the prince loudly about mana drain.

There was an ornate staff in the weapons locker it was really just a barrel that was enchanted to only allow the person who put the object in to take it out civil had intended it to be for umbrellas but once the adventures started to come he had to tell them to surrender weapons at the door. Stealing his courage he stepped down the stairs with his broadsword out and pointed towards the mage.

“How do you do, Mr Wayfarer please come down, have a seat we have much to discuss and very little time please sit down.” the old mage waved him into his own dining hall gesturing at a plain chair that was not one of his set they are all put up in the storage

Civil was put off by the candor of this mage. he had clearly used his magic to enter his business after hours “Sir mage what are you doing here, It's after business hours we are closed for the night and are not entertaining guests please leave” Civil said firmly his mind racing on his father had tried to teach him about court politics and mages.

“I'm sorry sir, for my intrusion. Would you and your wife please have tea with me, I have a proposal for your family. as he made the invitation two very comfortable bar chairs were popped out of thin air and were placed near the table Grand magus Lago where he sat

Being unsure civil lowered sword and stood next to the closest chair and glared at the interloper “sir you have interrupted my supper with my wife a violated the rule of the bar that no magic be done in the the building please leave-” Civil started to bark but he was interrupted by his wife putting her hand on his shoulder

“Honey, we should listen to him, he wouldn't be this far from the capital without good reason.” Abigail said with a soothing tone that had brought peace to him on many nights then she sat down in the chair saying “see nothing wrong.” taking Abigail lead he sat down onto the really comfortable chair at that moment civil felt [Charm Person] hit his mind and all his fear and worry melted away.

“Okay get up we have a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to do it” with that he lead Civil up to their bedroom.
