Chapter 67. Dammit.

They keep traveling through the hell-like maze, meeting all kinds of monsters which have the shape of fruits but are made of flesh and red in colour—small little pumpkins with wings and sharp teeth, grapes hanging from the ceiling that explodes on contact, filled with extremely acidic substance and durians which roll on the ground, chasing whoever they can before blowing up, sending a magma flying out of it.

“What the hell is all of these?! Are they trying to make a fleshy forest or plantation?” Hilda said as another durian rolled towards them with Hilda reacting by using conversion magic on it to blow it up, causing more magma to be sent flying.

“Can't even use mental magic since they don't have brains,” She complained to herself quietly, blowing up some grapes this time as their acid fell to the ground.

They carry on, eventually reaching the 35th, 36th, and 37th floor, each floor getting worse with the 35th having sharks and other aquatic animals with legs, the 36th having multiple massive swarms of mosquitoes with a hivemind, the 37th having everything the 33-36th, causing them to be stuck. The 37th floor also has the function of not allowing more than one person to flee by teleporting into the system or territory, causing Shila to be stuck with them and Red’s dodo bird having been caught somewhere along the line, having been killed.

“Ff—” Hilda shouted, trying to refrain from cursing as a shark chased her along with a couple of rolling durians.

“Safe zone!” Shila shouted, pointing to the right side as they ran around the corner, finding the door as Hilda teleported to it immediately, trying to push it open.

Hilda keeps trying but can't as Shila throws a pebble at her head, “it's a pull door!”

“Oh,” Hilda answered, quickly pulling it as she ran in, not bothering to hold the door open as the rest made it in time.

“Stupid! Impatient!” Shila shouted as she threw some pebbles she picked up from the floor at Hilda.

“Ow,” Hilda said monotonously, letting the pebbles hit her after she let one hit her.

“Where is the damn end? We've been here for days,” Hilda said, throwing the pebbles at everybody, annoying them.

“Hours,” Shila corrects, “we've been here for hours, albeit it's been 20 hours already but it is what it is.”

“Felt like days,” Hilda said back, annoyed by Shila.

The rest of them watched as Hilda and Shila kept arguing before something banged against the door, trying to get in but unable to do so.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“Hey, please shut up?” Orange asked, her tone more commanding than asking as Hilda and Shila reluctantly stopped.

The banging stopped as White placed his ear against the door, trying to hear for any monsters before opening the door slightly to get a peek.

As he did so, the monster turned around again, running to the door, and banged on it again as White closed it in time, “It's your dodo bird,” White said as he turned to Red.

“Oh, I did not expect them to become zombies, thank god I left my other guys in my territory before entering,” Red responded.

The door handle suddenly started to shake as everybody turned their attention to it.

“Hey, can dodo birds open doors?” Hilda asked, “of course not!” Red answered, “it doesn't have hands!”

“It has a beak doesn't it?” White said, trying to stop the handle from shaking by grabbing it but failing completely.

“Run?” Hilda said turning to another door, one opposite the one they entered from.

“Yup, ditch,” Shila said, quickly running out as the door burst open, the rotting, half-skeletal dodo bored entered immediately, letting out a roar that most definitely doesn't belong to any living being, let alone a dodo bird.

As Hilda and Shila ran out, the rest followed behind as a wall suddenly slammed down, separating Hilda and Shila from everyone, followed by more walls, causing everybody to be separated and White to almost lose a toe.

“Seriously?” Hilda said, turning around to find only one path to go as she sighed, walking slowly down the path.

After a while longer, they end up in a room as another wall slammed down behind them, the room being made of metal instead of the flesh-like substance and having windows at the side, finding White and Orange in separate rooms already along with a total of 4 rooms including hers, all side by side. The room also contained a massive door facing the path she just entered from.

“What the actual hell is this?” Hilda looked over finding White giving her a small wave and turned over to find Orange there who glanced over before turning back to the door.

“Shila?” Hilda asked, turning over to Shila.

“It’s a teamwork thing, you ought to wait for green,” Shila said, lying down and enjoying the peace.

“That's… actually pretty nice right now,” Hilda said, lying down beside Shila, falling asleep after a while.

As Hilda finally wakes up, she finds the green having reached, talking with White as Red and Orange are lying down bored from waiting for Hilda, Shila asleep by her side.

“Wake up!” Hilda shouts, causing Red and Orange to immediately sit up, shocked by the sudden shout and waking Shila up with a scowl.

“Shut up!” Shila shouted back, kicking Hilda’s leg as she stood on a platform, one that wasn’t there before, probably having appeared when Green reached.

As the rest follow along, the platform suddenly starts moving into the ground until it is at the same level as the ground, the door opening afterward.

Hilda watched as the rest got off the platform, the door still opened as they did so, “guess I gotta copy them?” Hilda said as she copied them, the doors all closing as Hilda stepped off.

“No… you’re kidding me,” Hilda said, giving the door a kick only for her foot to end up in pain.

“Goddammit!” Hilda shouted as the rest didn’t question it, finding it to be a massive pain too.

“Hey, we could just come back later for the person we leave behind?” White said, causing everybody to turn to him.

“Yeah, why not?” Green said, still being the most enthusiastic person, probably trying to make the situation better but causing Hilda, Red, and Orange to get more annoyed only.

“Who would trust each other to all come back for them?!" Hilda shouted angrily, not wanting to remain there any longer.

  “Dammit,” Hilda said softly.
