Chapter 10 Decision

  Chrissy POV

I raced home, a bit excited about the possibility that Victor might be another supernatural like me. I’m also happy that I cleared the air with Victor, now things won’t be awkward at school. I soon reached home, and I could hear the heart beats of three people, Mom, grandpa, and grandma. I stopped just short of the house and calmed down my excited mind a bit before entering the house.

“Good evening everyone.” I said a bit too excitedly

‘Fuck.’ I thought as my family knew me well, they could tell when something is off

“You seem in high spirits my dear. Did something happen at school?” Grandma asked

“No not really.” I said and sat down on the couch

“Oh, so you aren’t happy that Victor Grayson is still alive.” I heard mom say from upstairs

“I am, I’m actually kind of glad that I didn’t kill anyone.” I said genuinely

“Trust me, you are going to kill someone eventually. Supernatural or otherwise, but, you don’t have to worry about that for now.” Grandpa said

“So, did you find anything about Victor?” I asked, changing the subject

“Well, I sent his picture to an old friend an old detective friend of mine and he is running a facial recognition software for me. I also asked him to send it to a few of his friends in international security companies internationally.” Mom said as she came down the stairs with her laptop in hand

“Human friends? And is that even legal?” I asked

“Darren is an university buddy of mine, and no, this is very illegal. He has been using the country’s bio metric system for his own personal use. He could get fired.” She said

“Hmm, if this kid is a demon, you won’t find anything useful with that.” Grandpa scoffed and grandma elbowed him in the side

“Oh, you’d be surprised what I can find with a biometric scanner. I can probably tell you what you have been doing in the last few years.” Mom said as she typed away on her computer

“Wait, you guys think that Victor is a demon, why?” I asked, even though I also suspected he wasn’t human

“Well he’s alive after you drained him. That alone is pretty telling.” Grandma replied

“But, what is the possibility of him being half werewolf, demon, witch or even a halfling like me? He could even not know that he’s supernatural.” I asked and both grandma and grandpa looked at each other.

“Not very high. You are…unique, him being another halfling is…unlikely.” Grandma said, and for some reason, she sounded a bit nervous.

“Him being half werewolf is almost impossible, werewolves value strength and unity above all, they would probably kill him due to him being a weak link. Him being the child of a witch and a human is possible, witches are known to sleep around a lot. Not to mention they are beautiful.” Grandpa said with a dreamy smile and grandma punched him in the stomach, causing him to hold it. And I looked at them amused.

“Ahem, as for him being half demon, that isn’t likely either. Not because half demons don’t exist, there are actually a lot of them, but because you wouldn’t be able to take him as easily as you did. Even being part human, they are still plenty strong, almost as strong as a vampire or a werewolf physically and their magical abilities are quite potent, on par with a witches due to them being trained by demons, usually. Also, if he was part demon, he probably wouldn’t be here on his own, demons are known to nurture their young, most of the time.” Grandma explained.

“But what if he is half supernatural, what should we do?” I asked

  “Observe for now.” She replied

“Wouldn’t be better to train and befriend him, I mean we have to live in the same town as him. Having him as a friend is better than an enemy.” I tried to persuade them

“No, vampires don’t get along with werewolves, witches are too cunning and demons are too complicated.” Grandpa said

“Those sound like stereotypes and besides, he would be half human, like me. Whose to say those things apply to him, like the fact that I don’t have to drink human blood.” I said

“I don’t think it’s a good idea, if he is the son of a dread demon or Lamagra forbid, a windigo, then we are better off killing him. And if he is a son of a witch or werewolf, then it’s best not to get involved.” Grandma said

“And a halfling?” I asked and she sighed

“You go to school with him yes, see if you can find any similarities between the two of you. If you find anything…then we can talk.” She said and I nodded my head. I noticed that she said talk, instead of take in, meaning the family was unwilling to take him in even if he was like me. Just as I was about to head to my room, I remembered something.

“Is…is it possible that he is half Helsing?” I asked and all three of them looked at me, their eyes glowing dangerously

“If he is a helsing, then he can’t stay in this town.” Grandma said menacingly and I gulped. I knew, from what they told me, that the relationship between helsings and other supernaturals were strained. They could be said to be the new supernaturals on the block, but even so, they have caused a lot of damage within the supernatural community. They started a war around a thousand years ago against all other supernaturals, well vampires, werewolves and witches anyway, called the Blood Wars. A massive war that painted an entire country, called Transilore, red with blood as well as several other parts of the world. The war ended two hundred years ago, due to a psychopath named the Blood Red Commander, a helsing, who killed a vampire prince and a few of his own elders. I always found the story kind of odd, it is really unclear to me whether this guy was a hero or a villain. On one hand he stopped the war, on the other, he killed over two thousand people in the fifty years that he participated. When I asked my family, the opinions varied, my grandparents and father who were alive during the war said the guy was definitely a maniac, although my grandma secretly told me that the guy isn’t so bad. Vivian just gave me a cheeky smile whenever I asked. Alaric, who was born during the war, was a bit conflicted to answer. And mom, didn’t care.

Anyway, helsings were only created two thousand years ago, and they are humans who signed contracts with various demons for power. Before that, they hunted supernaturals like us with little success, which led to them turning to demons for powers similar to ours. The hypocrites. After the Blood Wars, everyone was forced to sign a treaty and the veil was created. Now, the helsings now served as supernatural police that ensures that everyone observes and follows the rules in the treaty.
