Chapter 9 Answers

  Chrissy POV

The rest of the day went like normal, we had classes and I talked to my friends. Even so, at the back of my mind I was thinking about what to do about Victor. He could be a supernatural and not know, then again he could also be a human that could see through the veil. Either way, I could at least try doing something, although I get the feeling that he will try and do something. Although my mom told me to stay away, I am way too curious to find out what another supernatural is like. The lunch bell rang and the three of us sojourned to the cafeteria and order our lunches.

‘I wonder if I can even still eat human food.’ I thought as I looked at the burger in front of me. I decided to take a bite and prepare myself just incase it makes me want to puke, but surprisingly, it tasted the same.

“Mind if I sit with you guys?” Victor said as he appeared beside the two of us

“Are you sure wouldn’t rather sit with Bethany?” Jayce asked, and we looked over at Bethany’s table, and sure enough, she was glaring at us.

“Ahh, she’s great, but she can be a bit intense. I much rather hang with you guys.” He said

“Then take a seat.” Sasha said, trying to contain her obvious excitement

“Thank you.” He said as he sat down beside Sasha

“So Victor, I heard you are good at shooting hoops, do you plan on joining the basketball team?” I asked and purposely extended my fangs and made my eyes glow red. I could see him swallow hard and become visibly nervous as he answered my question.

“Yeah, I just might. Or maybe I’ll try out for football. What about you? Are you a fan of sports?” Victor asked

“No, not really, but Jayce keep dragging me to his football games.” I replied and retracted my fangs and stopped my eyes from glowing

“What about you Sasha, you like sports?” Victor asked

“Not really, I much rather do more productive things with my time, like studying. Not that sports isn’t productive.” She said, a bit nervously and Victor chuckled

“Oh really, and what’s your favourite subject?” He asked

  “Chemistry.” She said

“Huh, can’t say I like chemistry, at least not at the high school level.” He said before taking a sip of his drink

“Why not?” She said, sounding flabbergasted that someone wouldn’t like the same subject as her

“It’s not that anything is wrong with chemistry, it’s just that I’d rather try create new things rather than play by the rule book. It’s kind of boring to do something that’s already been done.” He said and I smiled a bit

“True, but rules are there for a reason. Without those rules we wouldn’t have advanced this much in the field.” Sasha argued

“Oh sure we would have been fine without them.” He replied

“Yeah, but how many people would have died.” Sasha said and Victor simply scoffed, which really ticked her off. The two of them continued arguing like children about chemistry, it was cute. The bell soon rang, bringing an end to our lunch break and their little arguing session. We said our goodbyes and headed to our respective classes and ironically enough, we had chemistry next. The rest of the day passed quickly and soon school bell rang once more, bringing an end to the school day.

“Hey guys, you go ahead, I have to hang back for a bit.” I said to Jayce, Sasha and Victor. Victor had decided to join us and head home together, but I had other plans

“Why? Did you leave a text book or something?” Jayce asked

“No, the nurse just asked me to update her on my ‘sickness’ yesterday and I completely forgot.” I said, patting myself on the back for my brilliant excuse

“Since when does the nurse ask you to ‘update’ her on your sickness?” Sasha asked suspiciously

“Since it caused me to miss an entire day of school. And she is also concerned because I looked so pale yesterday.” I said

“Alright, see you tomorrow Chrissy.” She said and the three of them walked away.

‘Now then.’ I thought and my eyes glowed red

  Victor POV

The three of us walked home talking about various things as we went, mostly with Sasha asking me about my views on science and Jayce asking me to join the football team. It was nice. But we soon had to part ways as we all headed in seperate directions to our respective homes. I put my hand in my pocket, clutching the switch blade inside as I could tell someone was following me.

‘For a vampire she isn’t exactly subtle.’ I thought as I turned around and I could see Chrissy hiding behind a cafe, but pretended I couldn’t see her. She continued to follow me and I soon came to the alleyway where she attacked me the previous day and walked towards it. I could hear the sound of shoes hitting the pavement and looked behind me to see a hand moving towards me. I quickly grabbed her hand and flipped her over my shoulder, dropping her on the ground.

“Ow.” She groaned as she layed on her back against the pavement. I stabbed at her with my pocket knife, but she turned into a blur as she rolled away and my knife stabbed into the he pavement. She kicked me so hard that I was pushed against the wall and quickly got to her feet. I grabbed her and pinned her against the wall.

“Is this how you greet every girl you just met?” She asked

“No, just the ones trying to drain me of my blood.” I said

“Sorry about that.” She said and that surprised me a bit

“What did you say?” I asked

“I said I’m sorry ok, something weird happened to me yesterday. I’m not sure why, but you are different than other humans. You smell different and it may have made me go out of control.” She said and I smirked

“So my scent made you go wild huh. So maybe I shouldn’t stay this close to you are you will try to suck me dry.” I said teasingly and she pushed me away from her, hard enough to hit the adjacent wall and cause a crack in the concrete. I took out the Rambo knife that was hidden on the base of my bag, inside a small leader pouch I made that blended in with my bag.

“Okay, can you stop being an asshole for a second and put that knife away.” She said

  “Why should I?” I asked

“Look, yesterday was an accident, maybe a bit premeditated, but an accident all the same. Either way, your blood allowed me to get my abilities, but even so, I know I was in the wrong. But the fact that your blood was able to awaken my powers mean you’re special, most likely not human.” She said, her voice mixed with both anxiety and excitement

  “Okay, so what?” I asked

“I want to help you.” She said

“You want to help me.” I laughed, like it was the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. It wasn’t, but it was a close second.

“Yeah, if you have powers, wouldn’t you want to know.” She said and I thought about it for a second. Up

“Alright, why don’t you show me what exactly you are offering.” I said and she seemed even more excited

“Follow me.” She said and started walking to the forest and I curiously followed her

“Can I ask you a question? If you are a vampire, how can you eat normal food? Shouldn’t you only feed on human blood?” I asked

“First of all, I’m not a vampire, I’m a halfling. I’m half vampire, half human.” She replied and I nodded my head

“Huh, and other vampires are ok with that. From what I’ve seen…in movies, vampires are elitist pricks who only care about bloodline purity or whatever?” I asked and her face twisted a bit

“What movie did you learn that from?” She asked, with menace

“Uhm, Twilight: Breaking Dawn-part 2.” I said and she chuckled

“Well, I wouldn’t know about that. I’ve never met any other vampires other than my family.” She said as we entered into the forest and continued to walk deeper.

“Ok, different question. When you showed your fangs during lunch, how come nobody noticed?” I asked

“It’s because of the veil. It’s this thing that prevents humans from noticing our inhuman features.” She ‘explained’

“Hmm.” I said and a few thoughts flashed in my mind. As we walked deeper into the forest, she suddenly disappeared and I sighed while holding my Rambo knife in my hand. I could hear her moving through the forest, stepping on broken branches and I could see leaves moving.

“Impressed.” She said from behind me and I slowly turned around

“Sure. What else can you do?” I asked

“A lot of things. I have superhuman strength, hearing, sight and smell. I can also fly, turn into mist and phase through walls, but my personal favorite.” She said and held her hand outward, one above the other and closed her eyes

“What are you doing?” I asked after a minute passed

“Quiet, I need to concentrate.” She said and I could soon see blood forming between her hand and I squinted my eyes

“Whew, this is my family ability, I can make rain fall from the sky and this is an application of that ability. Think of it as, me manipulating the atmosphere at a much lower altitude and thus recreating the effects of a weather phenomenon.” She said

“So, you can make blood fall from the sky? Is there more to it? If not, then the only thing that is useful for is really pissing someone off. Or a free, non violent meal for other vampires.” I said and she smirked before making the blood fall on a few plants. The plants melted as the blood dropped on them, causing me to sign

“So tell me, are you interested now?” She asked

  “Interested in what?” I replied

“In me trying to help you awaken your powers. It’s obvious that you are probably a supernatural creature, even if you might not know it.” She said

“Why do you want to do that? Why would you want to help me?” I asked

“Because, I want to.” She said shyly and I smiled while chuckling a bit

“You know, I always thought vampires were elitist pricks who only cared about themselves and their rules, with only a few exceptions. I guess you are one of those exceptions.” I said

“You can’t just judge an entire species because you watched a few movies.” She said

“I guess not. I’ll accept your offer, and I guess we can start tomorrow.” I said

“See you tomorrow.” She said and disappeared, racing towards her home
