Chapter 16 Confirmed and Grounded

“So, the most noticeable ability of a supernatural healer is their ability to heal. Wounds heal pretty much instantly, and even before I drank your blood, my wounds healed faster than a human’s. So, I’m gonna need a knife.” I said to Victor and he nodded his head. I headed into the kitchen and returned with a knife.

“Here.” I said and handed the knife to him

“You want me to cut myself?” He asked with a raised eyebrow

“What would.you rather I do it? You big baby.” I teased and it seems he took it as a challenge. He held out his hand and sliced the knife across his palm, causing it to bleed. I looked at the wound and the blood I could see the blood dripping on the carpet. If he was supernatural, his blood should have coagulated by now and stop the bleeding. I looked at the blood dripping from his hand, and I felt myself being drawn to it. Like I was in a trance.

“Chrissy!!” I heard Victor shout and I snapped out of my trance and looked at him.

“Can you grab some paper towels from upstairs?” He asked and I nodded my head and rushed upstairs. I went into one of the bathrooms and took up a roll of paper towels, and as I turned to leave I saw myself in the mirror. My fangs were out and my eyes were glowing.

‘Damn it, did Victor see me like this. I can’t believe I’m acting up because I saw a little bit of blood. I need to calm myself down.’ I said and closed my eyes, retracting my fangs and stopped my eyes from glowing. I went back downstairs with the paper towel in hand and he quickly rolled off a piece of the paper towel and quickly tried to stop the bleeding.

“I guess we can cross super healing off my list of abilities.” He joked and I smiled

“I guess so.” I said and took up the knife to put it back in the kitchen, when I suddenly turned around super fast and threw something towards him. The object moved towards Victor faster than any human could have thrown it, but Victor quickly looked up and caught it with his bare hand. He open his hand to see a red stone encase in a ball of white tissue. Victor had these beautiful sand stones pebbles on the side of his sink, that really added to the overall aesthetics of the bathroom.

“I think we can add super speed, reflexes and perception to your repertoire of skills.” I said with a wide smile as he looked at the ball of paper towel in his hand.

“Superhuman reflexes I get, but perception and speed?” He asked and I smirked

“That ball was traveling at least 150 km/h. No human could have caught that with such ease, because their senses wouldn’t be able to perceive it that well. And for your reflexes to work, they need stimulus, i.e your senses. That ball is pretty small and I’m like two meters away from you, that’s not a lot of time to both perceive and catch it, for a normal human that is. Which means your speed, perception and reflexes is well above a human. Plus the impact didn’t push you back so I guess I should add super strength to the list as well.” I said with a satisfied smirk as my biology knowledge came in handy.

“Alright then, so that basically confirms it I guess. That I’m supernatural then.” He said and put down the ball.

“I guess, but your powers aren’t fully there yet I guess. But with this much, I guess it would explain why you’re so good at sports.” I teased and he seemed offended

“Hey, sports isn’t all about brute force. It needs actual skill, and I’m sure supernatural genes doesn’t give you basket ball skills.” He said and I chuckled

“If you say so.” I said I turned around to head towards the kitchen

  *Meow*

I looked down and I could see a cute little white cat with red eyes looking up at me and bent down to picked the little guy up.

“When did you get there little guy?” I asked as I picked up the cute little cat and he purred as I rubbed his stomach

“Oh Salem, you’re back.” Victor said and the cat jumped out of my hand and went over to Victor, much to my dissatisfaction.

“You named him Salem? Like the witch trials of Salem.” I asked as I placed the knife in the kitchen

“No, Salem as in safe. Isn’t that right Salem?” Victor said as he rubbed the cat’s stomach and he purred excitedly. I looked at my phone for the time and cursed when I saw how late it was.

“I need to head back. My parents will be worried.” I said

“Worried? Why, it’s not like anyone here can hurt you.” He said and my gaze lingered on him for a bit

“Less worried and more suspicious, I told them that I’m going to Sasha’s to study.” I confessed

“You lied to your parents…to come and see me.” He said

“It’s not like I could have told them the truth, they would probably freak out if they knew what we were doing.” I said and he smiled for a moment

“Then I guess you should go home now, before they start getting suspicious. I don’t want a bunch of vampires knocking on my door in the middle of the night.” He said and opened the door and I walked through it

“Will you be at school tomorrow?” He asked.

“…Yes.” I replied after thinking for a moment

“See you tomorrow then…Annastassia.” He said with a smirk and I looked at him, wondering who told him my middle name, when he closed the door.

  **********************************

“I’m sorry I came home so late but Sasha kept talking about what happened in class today, you know how she is, studious and very keen on not letting me fail any of m classes. Either way, good night.” I said and tried rushing up the stairs, but my mom stopped me

“Hold it young lady. We know that you were at that kid Victor’s house.” Mom said with a deep frown on her face and I knew I was in serious trouble

“You lied to us and what’s worse, you went that Victor guys house to teach him about us.” Dad said

“No, I went to his house to test if he was a supernatural.” I corrected

“Yes without our permission, what if he had tried to hurt you?” Mom asked

  “He didn’t though.” I said

“Probably because you didn’t find out anything that would make him hurt you. What if you had found something that he didn’t want you to and killed you because of it?” Alaric said angrily, angrier than I have ever seen before, but that wasn’t gonna stop me from defending myself.

“He invited me into his house. I doubt if he had something to hide inside his house, he wouldn’t have let me in.” I said

“And how much of the house did you see?” Grandpa asked

“All of it, except his bedroom…and the basement.” I said, remembering a white door in the living room that he said lead into the basement

“So he is hiding something?” Grandpa said

“Or he just doesn’t like strangers snooping around his bedroom and basement.” I defended and that seemed to have pissed grandpa off, but I didn’t care

“How much does he know about us?” Grandma asked calmly

“Not much, only that I’m a halfling and that you guys are vampires. I may have also shown him what my ability can do, but nothing else.” I replied and grandma nodded her head

“What about him? What do you know about him?” She asked

“Well, he hasn’t shown any supernatural abilities other than super speed, perception, reflexes and strength. No supernatural healing though. I cut his hand and it didn’t heal in the slightest and just continued bleeding. Also, that woman and little girl we saw in the pictures were actually his sisters. He mom has been missing for a few years as well and he really does live alone.” I said and grandma smiled

“That’s actually a lot. It seems he trusts you enough to tell you such important details.” She said

“If they are true, who’s to say that what he told her is even true.” Grandpa said angrily and I frowned

“Did what she say actually happen?” Grandma turned to mom and ask

“Yes, he cut his own palm with a kitchen knife and from what I could tell from outside. It didn’t seem to be healing. And she threw a paper ball at him faster than a normal human could have, but he still managed to catch it.” Mom answered

“So he is supernatural. He could be pretending or he genuinely didn’t know. Either way, the situation is dangerous.” Grandma said

“And because you lied to us and went behind our backs, you’re grounded.” Dad said

  “What?!” I screamed in outrage

  “For 6 months.” Mom added

“But-” I said but mom cut me off

“Wanna make it a year?” She said with a stern look on her face. I bit my lips and stormed upstairs and slammed my door shut before falling face first on my bed.

  ‘Fuck.’
