A door swings open as a young man slides into the room and sits down in a chair. Looking around the room, it was rather plain. The walls were soundproofed, the table was a thin sheet of metal, and the chair was one of those shitty metal folding chairs that schools use for events.
“I'm here, now what?” he asks the other people in the white room.
“Damian, you have been selected to be a Continuity.”
The man in the middle was the textbook definition of a secret agent, close-cropped black hair, immaculate black suit and he was even holding a briefcase! The one on the left was wearing the same black suit, but he had blonde hair and a visible holster with a pistol in it. On the right, the man was in a blue and black striped suit, holding nothing, but the way he held himself gave off an aura of calm, overwhelming power.
“Wha-? Oooooh, so this is about that stupid ass test I took a couple days ago, yeah?”
The 3 people in the room looked at each other before looking back at him.
“Well, yes and no.” the man in the middle replies, “Yes to you being here because of it. No to this being about it”
“Huh….” Damian pondered, “Wait, do I get to choose my power?!”
“Yes” all three said in unison, “4 powers have been selected as a best fit for you, please select the one that you wish to have for the rest of your life.”
Damian paused, mulling over what they said. So I get to choose between 4 different powers… Looking back at the table, Damian saw the 3 people setting up the vials of glowing liquid. One was a shiny red, another was vibrant green with lines of yellow flowing throughout it. The third was ocean blue, with a layer of white froth at the top, and the last. The last was a vial of dark purple liquid with occasional flashes of fluorescent pink and white.
“What powers do all of these give?”
James Blonde answered, “The red on gives Pyromancy. The ability to manipulate all kinds of flames. As well as immunity to fire and more agility.”
“The green and yellow vial allows for Earth manipulation and an increase in durability and general strength.”
Secret Agent spoke up, “The blue and white gives the wielder the power to control water, it will also allow them to breathe underwater.”
Blue and Black Stripes finished explaining the vials, “The last vial allows for the manipulation of lightning, this makes the user immune to surges of electricity as well as more durable for higher speeds.”
“These are the ones that have been selected for your choice based on your test results. Which one will you choose?”
The three questioned in unison.
That's not ominous at all…
I already know which one I want, but what benefits could I get from the others?
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Fire, I would be immune to fire, and I would be able to control it. Would I be able to summon it as well? It would also make me more agile…
Earth, it would make me strong and tough, I would also be able to control earth…
Water, I can breathe underwater and control the liquid.
I'm assuming that there is more to these powers than what they are telling me, but eh, I've already chosen.
Lightning, one of the only powers that grant speed, agility and perception enhancements, along with an elemental manipulation and conjuration ability.
Granted, it was the one I researched the most, the others might allow for conjuration of their respective elements as well, but I didn't look into them.
Damian stood up and stepped forward until he was nearly touching the dull metal table. He leaned forward and reached out his hand. He grabbed the vial that sparked with lightning.
“I'll take this one,” he states as he holds up the dark purple vial.
“Very well,” Secret Agent responds, “Follow me and we will imbue the power into you.”
The three men stood up and walked out of the room as Damian followed them.
Damian walked behind them in silence as they led him deeper into the building. The hallways grew longer and longer, the twists and turns built to confuse anyone not meant to be there.
The walls were a dull beige with ambient lighting from nowhere and everywhere. No shadows could be seen, but everything was in shadow. Nothing adorned the halls except for the occasional door with a seemingly random number.
They passed a room with the number 247, the next door was number 536 and another was 295. Damian was thoroughly turned around and lost by the time they got to their destination. Room number 3.
“Please walk through the door and lay down on the bed.” James Blonde told Damian.
“O-okay?” Damian pushed the door open and entered the room.
Inside of Room 3, several machines covered most of the floor space. One looked like a kaleidoscope, hundreds of small mirrors all angled to show only the sole occupant of a steel bed. a single syringe lined up to inject something into the same person.
Guess that's where I'm supposed to lay down, Damian thought to himself, somewhat apprehensive about the unknown process.
Blue and Black stepped into the room holding a paper gown, “Remove your clothing and put this on, please. Once you are done, please lay down on the bed”
“Alright,” Damian responded taking the gown from him and setting it on a nearby desk before stripping.
After he put on the gown, he laid down on the table and waited for them to do something.
“Ready the infusion,” Blue and Black said to someone in a lab coat that entered the room. As they moved to ready the machine, Blue and Black stepped forward to strap Damian unto the bed, “This is so that you do not move during the process, nothing more.”
Damian nods and readies himself for some kind of pain. The straps tighten some more before Damian feels a small prick as the needle pierces his skin.
Pain shoots through him as liquid fire is injected into his veins. A glowing purple light slowly traveling up the length of his arm. Damian can feel it changing him, making his body more streamlined for speed. Adding and removing parts and organs as it makes its way into his chest.
The burning sensation only gets more intense, as it reaches his heart. For a split second his heart stops. Damian can't breathe, his lungs aren't moving.
The next second, his heart is beating again. 10 times faster, 10 times stronger. The burning continues. First the rest of his torso, rebuilt for optimal efficiency, and reinforced against rapid acceleration and deceleration.
After that, his legs are next. Burned away to leave something new. The impure flesh and bone replaced by something better, something not entirely of this world.
His brain is next, a temporary transfer of control to his new heart, facilitates the reconstruction of Damian’s brain into one capable of registering higher speeds and remasters fast as he needs too.
Cushions of fat and hydraulic spinal fluid are used to keep the brain from moving. Locking it in place to avoid whiplash and concussions from high speed movement.
The room goes silent, the horrific screams of pain stopping as the process is finished. The man in the black suit steps into the room and releases Damian from the straps. Moving him onto a hospital gurney and pushing him out of the room, Black Suit moves Damian into a room with monitoring equipment and leaves him there after hooking everything up.
