It was the year 22XX, and the world was perfect. Technology had advanced to the point of utopia, with powerful AI known as CNI, Conscious Net Intelect, uplifting Humanity with advances in almost every field. Of course, not every CNI was happy about this arrangement. And so, what always happens happens, but with a twist. Humanity was too careful, the CNI could have never won a conflict in the war in the physical world. So a loophole was found. Due to the heavily augmented nature of humanity, rogue CNI''''s had a way to win, downloading most of the collective human population into the Net. With what very few unaugmented people effectively sent into the dark ages while the first Net Wars took place. Ultimately, it ended in a stalemate. Many rogue CNI called for the war to end after some time, viewing this as pointless and self destructive to the Net. Humanity was furious for a time, as their original bodies had long since ceased to function, thus making return to the physical world impossible. Years of a very uneasy peace followed, though time slowly bought it under true peace. Now, the differences between CNI and humans are nigh nonexistent, and that is a good thing too, as they need to work together now more than ever before. The long war cause much devastation in the Net, and the physical world was left to decay. Inspired by Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Star Force! Though this story is very much considered an ecchi.
