Tale 8: “Avanora” – Part 2.

Normally content to raid the shipping that went back and forth to the isles within the Caribbean, Ruby had of te run into quite a few naval vessels from mostly Spain and Engnd that were not in the mood to make deals with her. Without the temporary letters of reprieve while she worked for one side or the other, Ruby found herself constantly on the run from more than one small battlegroup. While it was easiest for the others to give her chase due to her hallmark red sails, Ruby had expertly worked her way to the upper reaches of the east coast of North America and to a port in the state of Maine called Seabright Harbor.

Winter in this area was typically brutally cold, and took its toll with high winds and icy water that on occasion would freeze on the deck of Ruby’s war sloop she’d named “The Mysti Mermaid.” While Seabright was a neutral port for anyone, the danger was in both her fellow pirates and the frigates that on occasion would send a few marines ashore to find her and possibly Nerice.

Luck. Sheer luck always seemed to follow Ruby One-Eye and it was after an easy snow nded on the little bay town that the manhunts curtailed quite a bit as the harvest season and the winter holidays descended on the small area.

Aside from the daily removal of ice from the sloops hull, Ruby had given extended shore rights to her crew and with Nerice in tow, had tried to find something to do in her idle time. Fate, much like Lady Luck also pyed a hand in the game. Ruby on more than one occasion in this fair-sized town, saw and greeted a few of her fellow pirate captains over a few mugs of ale and rum.

“Ner-Ner. We need to get out of here as fast as we can. More and more captains keep showing up, and before long there will be some sort of crew engagement. It could be anything from burning one another’s ship to an all-out battle in town..or something easy like a few bar brawls.” Ruby sighed and looked down into her half-full mug of rum. “Having Pearly here is almost a guarantee that there will be trouble.” Ruby ughed, “She is far more reckless than I am and honestly doesn’t care a whit about her crew.” Ruby then changed the subject and reflected, “This pce has been picked clean, weeks before we got here.” Ruby gulped her drink down until the tankard was empty. “With the snow, there won’t even be deliveries that we can properly intercept.”

It was no secret that Nerice despised the lovely nickname that her lover used and still refused to use it, even now a few years ter. Using her dymate’s memory, Nerice moved the chair she was in to be right beside the pirate captain. “Tanya.” Nerice whispered, “We can rob this pce if you really want to, there’s bound to be something of value..even if it’s just kidnapping.” Nerice paused with a wicked smile on her face, “However, my abilities are a little more in tune with out there.” She patted Ruby on her shoulder. “We can just go deep to the warmer part of the ocean and just stay there, embraced in each other’s slick bodies and eat …” Nerice ughed, “...find and eat frog legs.”

“A cute joke.” Ruby ughed and slipped her hand inside Nerice’s hood to pull it down and give her a kiss when she noticed her lover’s hair was only partially blue. “If this is as bck as my hair, it means your scales are getting bck too.”

With a little gruff-huff, Nerice pulled her cowl back over her face. “Let’s not discuss that right now, Tanya.” She poked Ruby in her ample breast, “I used quite a bit of my kyanite in order to give us favorable winds to get up here.” She lifted her simple hood enough that Ruby could see her ce blindfold and her sightless sockets. “I can get us out of here, but only if we find more kyanite…” Nerice shrugged, “...around here somepce. Maybe a jeweler or something.”

A swift cold breeze came in as the tavern door opened and caused the entire pce to look up and see a lovely woman in a silk dress adorned with green sleeves run over to Ruby. “Ruby, Ruby…” Delzie did her best to control her long blonde hair as it whipped across her face. “Look!” Delzie skipped over to her captain and kissed her squarely on Ruby’s luscious red lips. “A carnival. Do you know what that means?”

Ruby looked back and forth between her courtesan and her dymate. “You can’t possibly think I am going to rob a circus, or whatever this thing is? I mean the extra fsh of silver around here would be the giveaway.” She ughed and held up her mug for the barmaid to refill. “Besides, there are other captains we can pilfer from that have more than these people do.”

“No, Captain! We get to watch fun things. Who doesn’t like a super strong man?” Delzie flopped in Ruby’s p and feigned being smitten. “Oh take me away in those arms.” Leaning back a bit further and using Ruby’s arm for support, Delzie found Nerice’s blue-painted lips and gave her a kiss as well. “Good to see you, Miss Natasha.”

It was after a quick wiggle-wave combined with a sweet smile that Nerice started speaking, partly hidden from view due to her cowl. “Good day, dy greensleeve.” Nerice cooed from her tiny cowl. “Who knew you liked big muscles? I thought you liked tight little dies like our lovely captain here.” Nerice nudged Ruby and realized the one-eyed pirate was not paying attention to the conversation. “Captain? Delzie is telling us about this carnival, remember?”

Coming out of her self-imposed trance, Ruby’s ravishingly and sparkling hazel eye flipped back to Delzie and her dymate. “Aye, loves. I’m here…” She paused and looked around once more. “...I will expin in a moment.” She tapped on Delzie’s arm. “Okay you charming dy, tell us what we can expect other than the tales of the strange.” She wiggled her agile fingers in front of her courtesan’s face, “Love, I am not really interested in the bearded dy.”

Sensing the light grumpiness that Ruby was projecting, Delzie knew the womanizer well enough to know how to improve Ruby’s mood. With a spin and fir of her dress, Delzie dropped onto Ruby’s p and molded her voluptuous frame into the captain’s. “Ruby-rose.” Delzie purred and nibbled on Ruby’s ear softly. “Here you are drinking and not having fun, that isn’t like you darling.” Delzie traced little kisses along Ruby’s neck. “The woman I have come to know would never be in a tavern just … sipping her rum and doing nothing.” She loosened her bodice and pressed Ruby’s hand to her big breast. “My Ruby would make the party if there was none.”

“She’s got a point, T-...” Nerice grumbled, “...damn it. She has a point, Captain.”
