It is 9 years after the Battle of Yavin. The Empire of the Hand, a secretive group created by Grand Admiral Thrawn to protect the galaxy, discovers and fights threats in the dangerous Unknown Regions of the Star Wars galaxy. The shadow of the Grysks, a deadly species adept at subverting and manipulating others to bend them to do their will, creeps across the worlds of the region. Laceeya, a Chiss Commodore in the Empire of the Hand, commands a task force of ships to try and stop the evil Grysks and their expanding conquest. Fierce battles between capital ships take place, and Laceeya struggles with the burden of command and coping with the loss of life that surrounds her.
