chapter 17-Escape

Gregory and I ran through the street. Smoke was ascending into the skies from several burning houses. Suddenly at the other side of the street we saw countless people running through the street in hysteria. Following closely behind them were several cultivators from the Fatestar family.

They chased the people through the street and killed them when they caught up to them. Seeing this Gregory rushed forward in a fury. He pointed his index finger towards the Fatestar cultivators. Wind gathered into a small but concentrated sphere which shoot out. It hit a cultivator but he was able to react in time and put his arms forward in a guard which protected his heart.

Gregory gathered air and his feet. Suddenly a burst of fresh air was created and he leapt high into the air. The white moon behind him glowed menacingly. It also made the Fatestar cultivators unable to see his figure clearly. He shoot out several concentrated wind spheres from his index finger, one towards each cultivator. Some were able to dodge or guard against them but others were unable to do so and perished.

Gregory started falling to the ground. At the same time I rushed at the remaining cultivators to attack them at close range. There were only 2 cultivators remaining. Due to them being from the Fatestar family they were all Earth Core Cultivators and this was because the Fatestar family was known for it's use of Earth Spirits.

I looked at a cultivator to my left, a middle aged. Suddenly I swiped my left hand across the air. From that swipe a blade of wind in a crescent shape was made and flew towards him. He noticed this and crouched down before it could hit him.

Due to motion required to create and aim this Wind Blade at him my back was now turned towards a cultivator who was to my right, a young women. She took this opportunity to rush at me with her fist covered in rocky skin. But I had expected this. I spun around and shoot out a normal wind sphere towards her from my left hand.

Gregory had finally fallen to the ground and rushed towards the fight in order to join me. He rushed towards the middle aged man while I dealt with the young women.

The wind sphere I shoot out collided with her raised right fist which redirected it to her right. Due to how much force was put into this punch the sudden change in direction made her lose balance. However she managed to regain it swiftly and stood firmly on the ground. Then I seemed to prepare to throw a straight punch at her. She raised both her hands to block. However I wasn't going in for a punch, this was just to make her raise her arms and obscure her vision. I then kicked at her knee with my left leg, which knocked her off balance. This loss of balance made her drop her guard slightly, exposing her forehead for a brief moment.

But this brief moment was all I needed. I had already formed a concentrated wind sphere on the tip of my index finger and aimed it towards her forehead. It shoot forward at great speeds. It pierced her skin, the few layers of meat underneath and finally it pierced her skull and damaged the brain. There was now a small hole on her forehead, blood flowed out of it.

I turned around to see how Gregory was doing with his fight. I saw him standing over the corpse of his opponent while holding his staff. He turned to face me. We didn't say a word to each other and instead turned around to help the civilians who were hiding around in corners.

"Listen up! We have to escape from the sect through the gate. There is no other way." Gregory said in a charismatic voice.

The people were nervous and afraid which made them not be able to think about things too deeply so they all followed his lead.

Gregory started running through the streets and towards the gate. All of the civilians followed closely behind him.

As we ran through the streets we eventually felt a rumbling at our feet. It was chaotic. Gregory and I knew what it was. Footsteps.

We prepared for a battle while the civilians hid behind us. From a corner at the end of the street a group of people rushed out. I looked at them closely. Then I became relaxed. It was Alice, Pheobe and Leonard. Following behind them was a group of people who seemed very afraid and nervous, they were civilians.

Our groups ran to each other.

  "Richard! You're okay." Alice exclaimed.

"I am but we have to get out of here. It's too dangerous. We have to escape through the city gate." I explained.

  "Alright." Alice nodded.

"Let's go. To the gate!" I commanded.

Alice, Pheobe, Leonard, Gregory and I ran through the streets followed by several dozen civilians.

  ...

After a bit of running and a few battles with ambushers we were finally close to the city gate. We could see it at the end of the street we were currently in. However it was guarded and protected by around 10 cultivators from the Fatestar family. This was to be expected. The gate was the only way to exit to sect so people would naturally make their way towards it to escape in a situation such as this. So the Fatestar family made this area extremly guarded.

However this didn't deter the cultivators of the Moon Flower Sect. Some groups of cultivators attempted to brute force their way through the main gate.

At this moment the 10 guards were engaged in battle with a few groups of cultivators who were trying to escape. The guards were winning the battle but were greatly exhausted.

I turned to look at Alice and the others. They all nodded in understanding one by one.

I turned back around to look at the battle from a distance. I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply to prepare myself. Then I ran towards the gate. Alice and the others followed behind me.

The civilians hid in corners while we rushed towards the gate to join the battle to escape.
