Magic Tutor

It has been a month, and almost no patients have visited the clinic.

This First Month was somewhat more stressful. After word got around that I could regrow limbs and erase scars, we had a significant influx of patients. The Previous Priest, Rolan, was able to reattach limbs. But he could not grow them back. Don't get me wrong, that is a tremendous feat even on Earth, but it still left many people “broken.”

Taking care of all the cases was stressful but fulfilling. I also couldn't help but notice that Benjamin had become increasingly unsatisfied with something. He keeps staring at me and always seems to be lost in thought.

Benjamin approached me on a rare day when there wasn't even a single Patient.

“Ruby?” I looked up from reading one of Priest Rolan's books about Medicinal Plants.

“H-Help me... I mean, can you help me with something.” He looked like a young fawn with his legs shaking like that.

“Yes, Benjamin, I can help you...”

relieve flashed through his eyes, and his legs stopped shaking,

  “If it isn't too difficult.”

and there was the shaking again. Maybe that's why I enjoy teasing him so much. But his following actions really surprised me. He bowed down and stuttered

“I-I... I want you to teach me Magic”. I couldn't help myself from cracking up.

“Pfft.” His legs almost stomped like a rabbit. “Of course, I can do this much. I almost thought you were asking for something else.”

This time, the shaking in his legs stopped utterly. He straightened himself, flashed a beaming smile, and hugged me tightly.

“Thank you, Ruby, thank you so much. I'm sure with your help, I can become a real Priest.”

“Uhm, you are welcome?” after hugging me perhaps a bit too long, he let go, and I sat him beside me. But really, why is everyone hugging me so much? Instead of thinking further about this spreading sickness, I started Benjamin's first lesson.

“Benjamin, what is your understanding of Magic?”

  “Like what Magic is?”

“Yes, exactly.” He seemed to ponder a bit before eventually saying confidently.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“It is a power granted to us from the Gods to improve our lives.”

“Eh,” I was stunned. Is this really what people think. If so, I might be in trouble if I say something wrong.

“Benjamin, is this what it says in your Holy Book?”

He looked puzzled. “Ehm, no, but this is what everyone says.”

“Well, if this was true, then why would non-believers have magic” This left him stunned, and he deflated into his chair. But then an idea made him straighten up.

“Because they got it from their gods.”

  “Then what about me?”

  “Huh”

“I'm an atheist. I don't believe in any God.” for some reason, this left him even more stunned.

“But you are the most amazing healer in the world. Even the Pope can't grow limbs back.” After hearing this, sweat began to trickle down my neck. Am I really this amazing? While cultivating my desire in god's realm, I have met many souls of healers who would only scoff at my current skills. I may have already messed up and become too outstanding.

“I wouldn't say the best in the World, but I'm pretty good. I'm not a priest, and simply believing in a god won't make you into a proper healing mage. I can teach you how to heal people, but I can't tell you how to become a genuine priest like Father Rolan.”

“Do you still want me to be your teacher?”

It felt like I was destroying his worldview. Eventually, he broke out of his stupor and said confidently

  “I do.”.

Finally, Our Magic Lesson could begin. Finally, after being mentally Tormented by Otto, I would be the Teacher. I can Finally be the...

“Uhm, Teacher,” I noticed I had gotten distracted. “Yes, Benjamin, what is it?”

“weren't you about to tell me what magic is?”.

“Cough, yes, you are right. Magic is not something granted by a god. It is an invisible force that is all around us. And some places have more magic than others.”

  “Where is the most Magic?”

“The most Magic, according to the books in Ottos Library, should be at the High Elves Home, the World Tree. But other places with a high Magic concentration are around dragon dens and wherever many Monsters are.”

  “Why is that?”

“The World Tree needs Magic to birth High Elves, The Dragons need Magic to fly, and Monsters need Magic to raise their young.”

“So, I can get more Magic Power if I look for dragons and monsters?”

“Y-Yes, but don't. It's not worth dying over.”

“But then, how do I get more? I have almost nothing.”

“I was getting to that Point. Whew...” crisis adverted,” You can increase your Magic Power by Moving it inside your body and creating a Magic stone.”

Benjamin replied with visible disdain, “Ehm, Like Monsters?”

“Yes, just like Monsters. But unlike Monsters, humans aren't born with magic stones. We must make our own.”

  “How does that work?”

“Well, you must picture your Magic flowing through your body like blood. And when you are familiar with sensing your Magic, we can move on to the next step of forming a Magic Stone.”

“Ehm, what like blood? What do you mean? I don't feel anything?”

“I mean like this,” and without hesitation, I stand up, bow down, and put my hand on his head, sending a small amount of Magic through his Body.

“And how is it? Do you feel anything now, Benjamin?”
