Chapter 33 Mutation

  Chapter Thirty-Four Mutation

It was unclear when a thick fog began to envelop the entire camp, starting with just a thin layer that no one paid attention to. As dusk fell into night, some places would always have some fog. But gradually, the fog grew thicker, and by the time we realized it, people ten steps away were already invisible, and all we could see was the distant glow of the bonfire flickering vaguely in the distance.

Almost everyone unconsciously drew closer to the bonfire, and when I arrived at the bonfire, everyone had already gathered around it, discussing this strange phenomenon with a hint of panic. Mr. Ben was talking to Tricky in a flustered manner: "Mr. Tricky, I've never seen such thick fog before, is it some kind of conspiracy by that Johnny?" Ben looked around nervously and muttered: "I don't even know if the fog is poisonous? If we lose our lives for a woman, it's not worth it."

Trick furrowed his brow and tried to comfort Ben in a gentle tone, "Mr. Ben, don't worry, although this fog is very strange, it shouldn't be anything serious. If someone is coming after you for revenge, we'll protect you." Fenwick didn't have the same patience, he said with great disdain, "Mr. Ben's courage really isn't ordinary, so timid and yet still daring to venture out? If the fog is toxic, can you even survive here?"

Terry's words seemed to reassure him somewhat, while Fanny's sarcasm made him extremely embarrassed. He stood there with a changing expression several times, perhaps because he still needed our protection at this critical moment and didn't dare offend Fanny too much. In the end, he chose to silently return to his remaining few servants.

"After sending him away, Tricky said to us: 'Speaking of which, this fog is indeed strange, and Kla's disappearance is not a good thing. We'd better be careful. I've already sent Evan to scout around and see if there are any hidden dangers. Alick, go set up some traps around us to prevent anyone from approaching under the cover of the thick fog.'"

"Uh-huh, I'll go now." I nodded and turned around to head towards the outer edge of the camp.

But just a few steps away, I heard the sound of "thud, thud" falling to the ground from behind me. I turned around and saw that all the people who were fine just now had fallen to the ground motionless, including Tricky and Fenny, who had lost consciousness.

I went forward and checked their breathing, fortunately they were all still alive, just fainted. What kind of poison did they take? But why was I the only one who was unharmed?

An eerie silence all around, only the crackling sound of the bonfire, the thick fog still surrounded the camp, and the atmosphere became even more bizarre.

I nervously looked around and shouted loudly: "Who is it? Don't play tricks, come out quickly! If you have the ability, fight face to face, don't play such a despicable trick!" My voice echoed between the camps, still dead silence.

I might as well sit down, what's meant to come will come, and if I were to run around now, wouldn't that be exactly what the enemy wants? So although I'm scared in my heart, I've decided to wait for the enemy to appear.

After a long time, a gloomy and strange laughter sounded in front of me. I only heard a voice saying: "Alick, I didn't expect you to be immune to my poisonous gas. It's really unexpected! Well, let you die clearly and consciously in fear, so that I can enjoy the pleasure of revenge. Now, kneel down, atone for your evil deeds, accept the kiss of death, and atone for your sins."

Suddenly, I felt a stir in my heart: "Klara? I know it's you, don't pretend to be mysterious anymore, come out and let's have a fair fight. I'm just curious, who are you avenging?" There was a silence from the other side, and after a long time, a figure emerged from the thick fog. It was indeed him. In my heart, I had already vaguely understood that he must have seen the soul mark on me and came to avenge that deceased spirit magician.

"Indeed, I heard Kura say: "You, this lowly bowman, are actually the one who killed my brother. After sensing my brother's soul dissipating, I tracked his footprints to this country, searching for clues about my brother's death. It has been three years, and today I finally found you. The moment you walked into the inn's door, I sensed the soul mark that my brother left on you. To avoid arousing your vigilance, I waited for an opportunity to avenge my brother, until today when I finally had the chance."

"Your brother indeed died at my hands, he dug up my friend's grave, turned him into a zombie puppet, and let the soul of my brother who grew up with me since childhood rest in peace. After being discovered, he attempted to kill me and another girl, I had no choice but to fight back and killed him, what's wrong with that?" I know it won't make any difference, but I still want to say it out loud.

Kla laughed a few times and said calmly, "There is no such thing as justice or evil in this world. Everyone thinks what they do is right and just. If the standards of justice were consistent, where would conflicts and battles come from? No need to explain anything, accept your fate of death! My justice is that, regardless of reason, if you killed my brother, you will pay the price!"

Kla finished speaking and raised the magic wand in his hand, muttering to himself. It seemed he wouldn't rest until I was dead.

I looked around and suddenly shouted: "Wait a minute, I have something else to say."

Kla put down his raised hand and asked: "Do you have any last words to say? Don't beg for mercy from me, the greatest pity I can give you is death."

I took a few deep breaths, calming my tense mood, and said: "If you want to kill me, it's not that easy. This is a campsite, if we fight now, others will get hurt. Let's change the location."

Kala laughed loudly for a few times, sneering and said: "You are really naive and ridiculous, you're about to die but still thinking of others. I'll tell you, before trying to save others, first weigh whether you have the ability to do so!"

I said, "Don't think you can just kill me that easily. What if they wake up halfway through and stop our fight? You say they understand what's going on, will they help you or help me?"

Krax hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said: "Trick is not easy to say, Fenny is also a woman with too much sense of justice. Alright, I'll wait for you at the foot of the hill, don't think about escaping, if you want to leave this ten-mile radius, unless you kill me first." After finishing speaking, he turned around and disappeared into the fog.

I turned back to look at Tricky and the others, seeing that they were motionless, I let out a sigh. Tonight's battle wasn't going to be as easy as the one outside the village. Kura was tough, although far from being on the same level as the undead mage who fought against Anka-ra sensei. But compared to his brother, he was clearly not in the same league. I had managed to keep him at bay for now, mainly hoping to use this time to think of a way to deal with him. Honestly, I didn't have much confidence that I could beat Kura soundly. The only advantage I had was that Kura still didn't know that I was a mid-level magician.

I thought all the way, arrived at the foot of the mountain, Kura had been waiting for me there, seeing my arrival, he didn't say much either, raised his magic wand, a dark light appeared on the head of his wand, the battle began!
