Chapter 34: Annihilation

Volume 3 Journey Chapter 34 Absolute Kill

A cloud of black smoke enveloped Kla's figure, and I couldn't see his exact location. The cloud floated quietly in front of me, like a monster ready to swallow me at any moment.

At last, I couldn't help but take a shot at the smoke with my bow and arrow. The arrow seemed to pass through the air as if it had been shot from a gun, and it stuck into a tree behind the smoke. The tail of the arrow was still quivering. Suddenly, the arrow shaft broke silently, and I saw that it had been melted away like something had corroded it, turning it into powder. I was shocked - the fog was highly corrosive!

I involuntarily took two steps back, staring at the swirling smoke in astonishment. The smoke churned and a black light burst out of it, flying towards me with a speed that was no slower than my own arrow.

I barely had time to think, the black light was already shot in front of my eyes, in a hurry, I leaned back and fell to the ground, the black light almost brushed against the tip of my nose and flew past, hitting the forest behind me, with a loud noise, I saw several trees quickly lose their vitality, wither away, and become lifeless.

I sprang up, just in time to see the dark fog approaching me and stopping ten steps away. A murmuring voice like a lullaby came from within the fog, and the ground around it quickly turned black. Several zombies and skulls crawled out of the dark earth, closing in on me.

I stood there motionless, and to others, it seemed as if I had already given up on resisting. My bow was thrown aside, and I stared intently at the black fog that was closing in on me and the undead creatures crawling out of it. This magic, which I had seen before, should be a high-level spell of necromancy, right? The aura is still quite intimidating; for those who are timid, they would likely be scared to death upon seeing it for the first time.

If I hadn't seen the battle in front of the Magic Tower, I wouldn't have known how to deal with it. And Clara's magic is obviously not on the same level as what I saw last time. I should have about 70% confidence in dealing with it, but what kind of magic can break through that black fog?

I stood there quietly, the dark fog and spirits slowly closing in on me. Just as I was about to be engulfed, I moved, and the "Staff of the Gods" appeared in my hand. The feeling of holding that magical staff made me suddenly understand why mages at a certain stage would go to great lengths to find materials to craft a powerful magical staff - it's essentially a magic amplifier! My magic was amplified by more than tenfold through the staff! I could easily cast spells that were previously beyond my abilities, almost without expending any magical energy.

A "Absolute Defense" appeared around me, with me as the center, a ring of fire spread out, and everything within the attack range was engulfed in flames. The zombies and skulls summoned by Kura were all reduced to ashes in the flames, even Kura's black mist was purified by the flames, revealing his emaciated body, his wide magic robe was also burned with countless holes, and his hair was scorched yellow by the high temperature.

Kla only had time to let out a cry of astonishment, "You... you're actually a magician!" Three wind blades sliced through his body, and black blood splattered all over the ground. Kla's arrogance cost him his life; he saw me put down my bow and arrow, thinking everything was already over, but he never could have imagined that I was a magician with almost intermediate-level magical power.

I put away the magic wand, walked closer to Kla's corpse, and saw a cloth bag hanging from his waist. I reached out and took down the bag, inside which there was some money and what seemed to be materials for casting spells by necromancers, all of which were disgusting things. I shook off those disgusting things, but unexpectedly found a delicate box in the bag, on the lid of which was carved a skull pattern, although it looked terrifying, it had an absolute beauty of death.

I curiously opened the box, and in the center of the box was a black bead. I didn't know what it was, but I vaguely felt that there was a strong energy flowing inside the bead. After studying it for half a day, I couldn't figure out what it was, so I simply put it away.

I was afraid that I had left something behind, so I carefully rummaged through the bag again. The result was disappointing - there was nothing left. I stood up and released a fireball spell, burning everything to ashes.

Just as everything was about to be completed, a voice sounded from behind me: "I really didn't expect it, you're actually still a magician, you've hidden it very well."

I didn't turn around, it must be Evin. Only an assassin could appear silently behind me. I stared at the dying flames and asked, "So what do you plan to do? Avenge Kla for me?" The assassin was terrifying, I had no confidence in being able to deploy a magic shield while he attacked me, which means if he wanted to take me out, my chances of dodging were less than half.

Evan behind me chuckled and said, "Don't be tense, everyone has their own secrets, these have nothing to do with me, and I'm not bored enough to avenge someone I don't know. I've heard the grudges between you two, there's no justice or injustice, I don't care, assassins who like to meddle in other people's business won't live long."

Ivan finished speaking and walked over to my side, indicating that he had no ill intentions towards me, and it was only then that my body completely relaxed.

"Able to kill a high-ranking undead mage, you're not simple, huh? Although you took advantage of the situation beforehand, being able to lure him in so calmly and catch him off guard with magic, your thinking is really meticulous. Luckily I'm not your enemy, or else you'd be a tough one to deal with." Evan said with a smile, changing his previous expressionless face to a more affectionate look towards me.

"I don't want others to know that I'm a magician, I just want to keep a low profile and hurry on my way. Actually, the road I need to take is very long, and I always need to prepare for something unexpected." I said with a smile.

"Hmm, I won't mention it to others. Being a magician is already a troublesome profession. For a thoughtful magician like you, I'd rather have you as a friend." Evan smiled and extended his hand towards me.

"Well, let's just be friends then, maybe we'll have the chance to cooperate with each other in the future." I also smiled and extended my hand. The strong won't make friends with the weak, looking at how Evan treated me before, now he's taking the initiative to be nice to me, fully explaining... Evan is indeed a pragmatist!

I was secretly complaining in my heart, but on the surface I still maintained that knowing smile, with both hands tightly clasped together...
