Chapter 54: Memories (4)

"Now you're just pulling my leg Soren. Dr.Morgan knew her husband all along? In fact, how did he her in the first place? What was he doing there in the first place?" Nicolas asked, unconvinced of Soren's story, as the sequence of events became for too favorable for the two of them.

"Like I've mentioned before, he was the shop's regular before I first started working there. Besides, it isn't surprising that that he knew Mr.Vigil, since AionTech has a partnership with Vigil Electronics." Soren explained, as it was well known information, since all AionTech commercials also showed their sponsors and partnerships.

"Yeah, but even if he's one of the heads of our medical departments, I just can't see him coming into contact with our electronics partners at any point. Probably our suppliers for medical tools and drugs, but not for our electronics suppliers." Nora stated inoffensively.

"Eh... They probably ended coming across each other during company meetings or something like that. I'm not exactly one to pry too deeply into other people's affairs, so I can never say for sure." Soren hypothesized, before continuing. "Anyways, after Mr.Vigil and his wife left his store, after gifting everyone a drink of coffee for the mental distress she caused..."

  ...

*sigh* "Seriously Morgan, couldn't you call the cavalry a bit sooner?" Gee stated sarcastically, as he stared back at Morgan, who was currently taking a sip out of Irish coffee.

"I called the cavalry the moment I got an opportunity. *sip* By the way, here's your phone back, young man. Thank you for lending me your phone and don't worry, I haven't messed with anything inside of it either." Morgan stated, as he gave back Soren his phone, while Soren nodded back and went through his phone, to make sure that Morgan actually kept his word.

"So, what brings you here? There's still a couple more days before the deal's over, besides, today's not your off-day either."

"C'mon Gee, don't be like that. Besides, when have I ever come here to cause you trouble?" Morgan asked casually, as he kept drinking his coffee.

"Literally every time you decide to show up unannounced." Gee responded in a frustrated manner, as he was sat down on his rocking chair.

"Alright, alright, I'll stop beating around the bush. Barry, finish your shift early and start packing your things, we'll be moving into our new house tomorrow." The moment Morgan stated that, the curly-haired employee quickly put down a glass cup he was currently cleaning and asked incredulously. "Already dad!? Didn't you say the moving would be delayed by an additional week, because of the damage caused by the hurricane!?"

"Already son. As it turns out, the interior damage was minimal at worst, so once they managed to remove the torn trees and performed a full maintenance check of the building, they gave the A-OK sign."

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

"But dad... I still got a few hours before my shift is over. I can't just-" Barry desperately retorted, only to be shot down by Morgan immediately after.

"Don't worry, you'll be able to continue working in couple of days later anyways. Now come help us already, the rest of the luggage won't be packed by itself."

"Hey, Morgan! Wait! What about me dude? You know I can't work by myself until I reco- Ah! F*ck!" Gee complained, as he quickly rose from his chair to chase after him, before he ended up pulling his back.

"Relax Gee... Don't you have a pair of new hands, ready for work? There primed and ready." Morgan casually stated, as he finished drinking his coffee.

"And where are those pair of hands? Will you pull those right out of ass as well?"

"Nope. They're right there. Should make for a good replacement until Barry comes back." Once he stated that, he pointed his thumb towards Soren, who was currently preparing another job application, completely oblivious of the conversation up until he was directly asked. "Hey, young man! How good are you at making coffee?"

"Uh... Are you talking about me sir?" Soren asked, as he looked around and wonder if someone else was close to him.

"Of course I'm talking about you. Who do you think I was talking about? Alan Rickman?" Morgan explained, as he turned everyone's attention towards Soren.

"Uh... I haven't made much coffee in my life, aside from instantaneous coffee." Soren stated apologetically, as he didn't understand why he was being asked such a question.

"How about your social skills? How good are those?"

"Pretty decent. I'm no social butterfly, but I can make simple conversations with just about anyone."

"Are you good at following simple instructions?"

"So long as it's not anything outside of my physical capabilities, I shouldn't have any problems." Seeing the silence between the two middle aged people and the employee, Soren couldn't help but feel nervous and wondered if he said anything weird. "Umm... Is there a problem?"

"Boss? The decision is yours. So what will you say?"

"Urgh... Fine, but only if he agrees as well. You know I can't forcefully hire people Morgan." Gee relented, as he turned his face towards Soren and asked him. "Say kid, how about you work here for a day? Same pay as my employee as well. What's ya say? You in?"

"Huh!? Wait, for real!?" Soren asked incredulously, as he wasn't expecting to be given a job offer so suddenly.

  ...

"So that's how you landed your job on the Resting Grounds?" Nicolas asked curiously, as he was currently stretching his stiff body.

"Like I said before, it was just a one-time job for a day. It wasn't even a trial period and although I did work for the rest of my afternoon and evening, I couldn't say at the time if that kind of job was right up my alley or not. At the time, I was kind of going through all of my available options. I didn't have any specific jobs on my mind, so long as they paid me well enough to have a roof over my head and food on my table." Soren explained, as he finished putting the last knight needed for his quest.

"So how did you land that job anyways? Did Dr.Morgan's son quit his job or was he fired? Did you work with him, before he left?" Nora asked curiously as well.

"Well, I was given an offer around a month later, but-"

"But I think that's enough storytelling for tonight." A familiar male voice suddenly grabbed everyone's attention, as Nora and Nicolas turned their heads towards the direction of the voice and saw a curly-haired man, wearing a medical coat.

"Oh, Dr.Morgan! How long have you listening?" Soren asked awkwardly, as he didn't know for long he had been listening.

"I've been here for a few minutes. I decided to check you out and see how you were doing, and here I find you reminiscing about the past. Are you feeling that nostalgic already?" Morgan explained casually, as he stood close to the screen.

"I'm not feeling nostalgic doc. I was just narrating an old story about myself, that's all."

"That's good and all, but if you want to narrate your stories, do so after working hours."

"I can narrate my stories whenever I want doc. You can't force me to keep silent about my life stories."

"Oh really, how about the fact that you nearly pissed your pants whenever you were facing Ms.Vigil? Is that alright to narrate then Soren?" Morgan jokingly stated, with a grinning expression.

"I didn't piss my pants, she only made sweat, that's all everyone!" Soren desperately pleaded, but the lack of a response told him that no one seemed to believe him.

'Come on doc... Why cause me trouble once more?' Soren mentally cursed, as rubbed his temples and quickly made his way towards the Hunter's Guild.
