"Who...who are you?!" Holnd asked as he trembled in his chair, looking up at the woman who had just entered the room through a portal that quickly closed behind her.
"Who I am is none of your concern King Holnd, all you need to know is that I am here for your crimes" Leini replied to him as she took a step forward
"You are to address him as His Majesty! No matter who you are, we are entitled to the respect that is due to our rank!" Queen Darisn shouted
"Silence child" Leini said as she snapped her gaze over to her, shutting her up as Darisn could feel an unmistakable fear building up inside her that stopped her from speaking further
"Pandora, can you clean up the pce please?" Leini asked as she turned to the white figment waiting beside her
"Of course Master" Pandora answered with a curt bow before quickly moving across the room, her hand touching the corpses and the blood-stained walls, turning them into white sparkles that vanished from view. Once she was done she stood ready at her master's side once more
"Thank you Pandora"
"What is it that I have done to enrage someone like you? I don't recall offending such a person" Holnd spoke through small gasps as he and Darisn held their hands together tightly
"I am surprised you don't know who I am, but I would attribute that to you not coming to my academy and being taught properly, although your institutions here in the kingdom are decent at best" Leini stated as she looked at him, hands csped behind her back as she stood up straight with a cold and confident demeanor
"What are you on about? I don't think you have a right to make fun of our kingdom" Holnd spat back
"Ohohoho, you have no idea how much of a right I have. After all, I was here when the kingdom was first built and I can safely say that your ancestor would be appalled by what you have done now" She added with a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips
"Liar! How would you know?! You are nothing more than a mere woman spouting words!" The King of Gharintia shouted as he gripped his chair and his lover's hand
"How would I know? Well, I am older despite my looks. But instead of expining it myself, why don't I let him do the talking"
{!}
At the snap of her right hand and pointing to the spot right next to her, a white portal in the shape of a door appeared. The portal was silent despite its swirling nature, the two monarchs on their thrones kept their gaze on the portal and on their faces was a hint of nervousness and fear in anticipation for what was to come out of the portal.
Their eyes widened at the sight of a 5'4 tall (1.63 m) pudgy man wearing a set of white regal robes and wielding a small golden scepter walk through the portal and stood before them. His short hair atop his head was white and the handlebar mustache he had was of a simir color, his eyes were a sharp hazelnut and both were trained on the monarchs on the throne before him.
"Soo0. We finally meet, my descendant and current man on the throne...Holnd Merbert" Alistair Merbert said as he looked at them
"Who are you?" Holnd asked with caution as he looked down at the man standing before him
"Who do you think? I was told by your mother and father that you were a smart boy, but this exchange hasn't proved that statement" Alistair added as he crossed his arms, looking unimpressed
{!}
"Wait! You couldn't be?!"
"Yes. I am Alistair Merbert, the first of my name and the first King of the Mage Kingdom of Gharintia, and I must say I have a lot of things to discuss with you. My so-called 'Champion of lost prestige' " Alistair answered as he looked at Holnd and Darisn
"Are you not pleased Ancestor? I have done so much to finally bring back the lost prestige and honor you are due!" Holnd asked as he stood up from his chair
"Lost prestige? Lost honor? What the hell are you on about child?" The first King asked as he raised an eyebrow
"Your lost honor and prestige Ancestor! You should know best that the First Schor of Dravitarius, that bastard Malcolm the Wise! Took so much from you! I am merely trying to give it back to our house and our name! I wanted to show the world that our nation's Grand Architect-"
"Let me stop you right there kid" Alistair interrupted as he raised his hand to cut Holnd off
"What? Did I say something wrong Ancestor?"
"Yes, several. First, what makes you think that Malcolm took those from me?" The first king asked as he looked at his descendant
"Well...the words from the High Schor of the Order of Sigismund opened our eyes to the truth"
"And that was?"
"That no person alone could have been able to do what First Schor Malcolm had done, no one alone could be that smart and-"
"I will stop you right there again. First, there were a bunch of us who helped Malcolm, but no, we were not as smart as him. Hell, it is safe to say that he was the entire brains of how this continent got on its feet"
"But-"
"I am not finished speaking boy" Alistair stated as he looked Holnd down, his brow slightly furrowed
"Whatever that 'High Schor' taught you is nothing more than a lie. A lie meant to pray on your insecurities and make you believe that you deserve better" He added, his voice slightly angrier with this statement
Alistair then paused as he walked forward, going up the steps and standing before the current king and queen of Gharintia, looking at them up and down as he silently judged them. He looked back at Leini who was standing next to Pandora and the former initiate Ferrin who was slightly shaking as she stood next to the white phantom.
"How can you call yourself Holnd The Wise if you do not even know your history? Have you read the history books of our kingdom?" Alistair asked as he pced the tip of his scepter which was a sphere on Holnd's chest
"Yes...but they were written by Malcolm the Wise and so I ordered them burnt alongside the rest of his texts because they inherently had a bias"
"What?" Alistair asked as he blinked his eyes
"I...ordered them burnt...along with the Capital Library they were housed in" Holnd answered him, a hint of nervousness in his voice as he revealed their fate
Alistair lowered the scepter from his descendant's chest, his eyes still blinking as he bit his left thumb trying to suppress his urge to scream. He looked back up at Holnd who looked down at him with a nervous expression. Alistair turned to Leini, both of them knowing that Alistair was on the verge of letting out his rage, she nodded at him and Alistair nodded back as he took a deep breath and let out a long dragged-out and tired sigh.
{!}
Then, moving faster than even Holnd could see, Alistair spun back around and struck Holnd's chest with the sphere end of his scepter, making Holnd wheeze in pain after a sharp yell, sending him stumbling back and colpsing onto his throne.
"Ancestor-"
"You did what?!!" Alistair roared as he looked at him
"Tell me you didn't just say that you ordered the Capital Library and all of the books within it to be burned down. Tell me!" The first king demanded as he moved to his descendant and pressed the tip of his scepter on Holnd's cheek
"I did Ancestor. Because they were all penned by Malcolm, I couldn't let them continue existing!" Holnd cried out
"You fucking imbecile!" Alistair shot back as he grabbed Holnd by his colr and pced their faces close enough to one another that Holnd could feel Alistair's heavy breathing
"Do you know why the books were all penned by Malcolm? Huh?"
"Because-"
"Because I asked him to! I asked him to write down as much knowledge he had that could fill the library and be distributed across the kingdom! I even peer-reviewed his work! Do you know why?"
"Be-"
"Because he was the smartest of us!"
Alistair then shoved Holnd back into his seat as he turned around and walked a few steps away, stomping on the ground as he tried his damnedest not to overdo his rage.
"I swear, if I was not already dead, I would be having a stroke by the stupidity that was just uttered from your mouth" Alistair remarked without even looking at him, just waving his hand in his descendant's general direction
"Ancestor I-"
"Quiet! I swear to the Gods above please give me the strength not to just send my descendant up there way before his time is up"
"Haaa....I am so amazed that stupidity can still hurt me even after I died" He added as she sat at the top of the steps leading up to the throne, a defeated expression across his face as he held it in his hands. There was a few minutes of silence as Alistair continued to sigh as he sat on the stairs
"Ancestor?" Darisn asked as she moved closer to her husband to check if he was fine
"Do you know what us Merberts were before I was bestowed? Not self-procimed mind you, bestowed, the title of King by Malcolm?"
"Uhhh"
"Of course you wouldn't, you burnt down the fucking library for Gods sake" Alistair quickly added as he rose from his seat and turned back to face the couple on their thrones
"Do you know what we were before I was bestowed the title of King?" He asked again, seeing the two of them shake their heads much to his shame and disappointment
"The Merberts were once Pig Famers. Myself included. Me, my father, my mother, and my sister, lived in a quaint ranch near the mountains in the center of the continent, it was there I met Malcolm who had stopped over in need of a pce to stay for a while. We obliged, I asked him many questions and the two of us became great friends in a span of days. When he procimed he was about to set off, I accompanied him as his best friend" The first king stated as he looked away from the two, almost reminiscing before snapping back to the two of them
"Do you see where I am going with this?" He then asked, seeing the couple on their thrones shake their heads once more
"I swear, the requirements for being called 'The Wise' is so rock bottom hayss"
"Well, just imagine, a decade or so of adventures around the continent, helping people left and right. I didn't serve as his servant or someone else, I served as his confidant, his ride of die as you kids call it, I was with him every step of the way and that was fine. I was there to help when I could because, unlike Malcolm who had a wealth of knowledge stored in that big brain of his, I was simply pin" He told them as he took a step forward
"I wasn't the 'Grand Architect" you are prociming me as in those false statements, I am stupid, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, I wasn't the final voice of big intellect that could rival Malcolm. I knew that and I was fine with it. Do you still not see where I am going with this?" Alistair asked as he looked Holnd dead in the eyes and only saw him shake his head
"No Ancestor...I don't" Holnd stated, although with a pang of guilt in his voice as he was being serious
"Hmmm...then let me say it like this. You have done more damage and destroyed more of my legacy than you could have possibly imagined"
"What?!" The current king shouted in disbelief, with Darisn sharing the same unbelieving expression
"Yes. Because of you burning down the library, destroying the hundreds of thousands of books inside, and purposefully trying to rewrite history to make me seem like someone I never truly was, you have sndered my name more than you have honored it" Alistair stated firmly as he took another step closer to them
"How? What do you mean by that Ancestor?" Darisn asked
"You must be crazy Ancestor! How could we possibly-"
"Silence Holnd. A smart man thinks, a wise man listens" Alistair cut his descendent off as he could already hear where he was going with his retort
"When Malcolm built this kingdom, with the help of hundreds of thousands of workers and me, the kingdom he envisioned was a kingdom where dreams could come true. A kingdom where people could freely think and express themselves, a kingdom that appreciated the intellectual and nurture all within its borders regardless of who you were. A nation that I tried my best to keep alive when I was made king by Malcolm as he saw me as the best choice in keeping that dream of his alive" The first king stated as he was now a step before his descendant
"A dream that you both have undone with your censoring, the burning of the library and its books, and your attempt to rewrite history. That is how you have destroyed my legacy more than you could have even imagined...do you get it now...Holnd?" Alistair asked as he pressed the tip of his scepter on his descendant's forehead, showing him the vast sea of memories of Alistair and Malcolm being the best of friends
Holnd saw the creation of the kingdom, the nights that his ancestor and Malcolm spent inside the capital library. He saw Malcolm, the man he thought to be nothing more than a bloated fake, pce the crown upon Alistair's head during the tter's coronation. He also saw moments where Malcolm came to his ancestor for workshopping things, while the tter cimed to be not the brightest, it did not matter to Malcolm as he wanted his best friend's opinion on things even if it was out of his depth, as the First Schor held his best friend's opinion so highly.
For the first time ever since Alistair showed up, Holnd nodded as his ancestor’s words finally began to sink in. He felt a massive wave of guilt and regret flowing through him as his hands tightened around the edge of his armrests, tears welling up in his eyes as he could finally see the horrid things he was doing. His lips trembled as he tried to come up with words, his head turning away as he rested on his beloved wife's shoulder, trying his best not to cry.
Darisn looked away from Alistair and began comforting her husband, she was also given the same memories as Alistair did the same thing to her, she could see now why her husband was crying, why the man who had so much ambition and drive in him turn into a sniveling mess upon her shoulder.
"Ambition is fine Holnd. It is what makes us do more than others, but too much of that ambition turns what were seemingly good intentions into painful actions that have unintended consequences. You didn't expect me to come before you and berate you right?" Alistair said as he pced his hand on his descendant's shoulder
"I...I am so sorry ancestor" Holnd apologized through watery eyes as he held onto the first king's hand and pced it against his forehead
"Do not apologize to me child. Apologize to the people you have hurt. Especially the woman who is standing there" The first king said as he gestured to Leini who had been watching the entire thing unfold
"Her? But why...Ancestor?" Holnd asked as he looked at Leini, feeling a pang of fear shoot down his spine as he saw her lock eyes with him
"Because she is more furious than me...and for good reason" Alistair told him
"What?"
"Well...what I will tell you shall not leave this room or else you both die, understood?" Alistair told them, with both of them gncing at one another in confusion before nodding to the first king
"Well. She is the mother of Malcolm believe it or not, but you didn't hear that from me" He said as he then helped his descendant to his feet. Both of them wide eyed as they walked with him over to Leini, stopping just a few feet away from her.
Standing before her, Holnd and Darisn felt a shot of cold fear go down their spines that made them shiver in pce, they gnced at Alistair who was keeping his gaze on them and waiting for them to start.
"Well? I'm waiting" Leini told them as she crossed her arms and looked them in the eyes
'We...we are sorry for our actions. We have not only destroyed the legacy of our ancestors and our predecessors but also the history of the kingdom....I take full responsibility for what has happened and I swear I will do better starting now" Holnd said as he gave a deep bow alongside his wife, both of them not daring to look the person before them in the eyes
"....What you have done....is not something that can be undone in a single moment. You will have to apologize to the various schors whom you have scorned with your actions...what will you do for them?"
"We will do what we must to try and apologize to those loyal schors of the kingdom...and for the library...I have no idea how to rebuild such a thing after what we have done to it" Darisn answered her, the regret in her tone about the library evident to Leini
"So be it...who knows, maybe the Gods will do you a favor and rebuild that establishment and restore it to its former glory...but only if you are true about your words and actions" Leini told them, a hint of anger and rage still in her voice as she looked at them
"My Lady. Do you have anything else to tell them?" Alistair said as he looked at Leini who then looked back at him and nodded
"Right, and one more thing. Both of you should face me for this" She ordered them to which both monarchs quickly followed
"This woman here is Initiate, or rather former initiate Ferrin of the Order of Sigismund. I am pcing her under your care to create an organization whose goal is to undo the damage that the said order has brought across this and the other continents of the world" Leini added as she gestured to the short young woman standing next to the white phantom who bowed her head in embarrassment as her cheeks flushed red
"I see...how shall we help her...Miss?" Holnd asked her
"Provide her with what she needs. From manpower to money and other resources. The group's name shall be known as the Order of Bellephrone. Am I understood?" Leini asked as she stared them down
"We understand...we will not fail you...mother of the First Schor Malcolm" The current king of Gharintia stated with a steadfast expression, seeing Leini's unreadable expression slightly shift although he could not tell what it was now
"Very well...that is all"
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Deep inside the Grand Archive Building which was the Headquarters of the Order of Sigismund in the Kingdom of Caliban was a meeting of the High Schors of the order. Inside a grand room made of white marble, the various High Schors from the continents of the world sat around a semi-circle table, with two of the 12 seats missing their occupants while the 13th chair that was reserved for the continent of Kani being empty as usual since they could never get a foothold on that damn pce due to a certain person that was going to be the topic for today's discussion.
Standing before the table was a tall and nky man dressed in a dark blue robe with light blue accents and golden chains along the colr of the outfit, his greyed-out hair slicked back and his beard recently shaved but also starting to grow back, leaving short stumps along the sides of his face and his chin. His ptinum-colored eyes looked at the gathered High Schors before him, a small smirk on his face as he stepped forward.
"My fellow schors of this glorious order. I, Supreme Schor Joseph Gannity have gathered you all here for a special announcement" He stated with confidence as he looked at all of them
"What is it oh Supreme Schor?" A man by the name of Hight Schor Atley asked, his features hidden by his robe's hood
"I have finally found someone to take care of our certain vampire problem on Kani...It took me a long time of looking and a lot of gold was spent but I believe it was all worth it in the end! May I present, the greatest adventurer alive and bounty hunter for hire, Rawline Verusio!" Joseph stated as he gestured to a figure entering through a door behind him
The High Schors and Joseph turned their attention to the person walking into the vast chamber, they were wearing a suit of pristine silver-colored pte armor with leather satchels and bandoliers filled with daggers, potions of acid and even crystals that are used for magical traps. On the left pauldron of the individual was a set of scratch markings that counted the number of successful kills and the number was currently around 99. The figure stood next to Joseph and scanned the group before them, their face and features obscured by their suit and helmet.
"So. What's the job?" They asked, their voice augmented by a magi-crystal voice changer embedded in the helmet
