At the end of his long battle with Freeza, Goku finds all his best work was in vain after the space tyrant rises almost unscathed after being dealt a Spirit Bomb to kill his friends. After the death of Gohan, Goku is sent into such a rage that he taps into the power all Saiyans are inherently born with: the Soul Room. In this dimension between life and death Goku meets the original Super Saiyan who promises Goku not only power to defeat Freeza but to restore his friends to life.
