The symphony of war continued, its chaotic melody filling the battlefield. Ethan and Lisa were back on the wall, overlooking the carnage below.
Ethan’s face was unreadable, but inside, he was unsettled.
Why did humans have to exterminate other races? And why now, of all times?
He could only find a small sense of comfort in knowing that his family was safe, not that they ever cared much for him. Still, the thought helped ease the weight of his conscience, even if just a little.
A deep, resonating horn bst echoed through the battlefield as another Warhorn emerged from the enemy ranks. But this one was different, rger, more muscur. Atop its back sat a warrior cd in golden armor, wielding a spear twice his own height.
He raised his weapon and let out a battle cry, sending his troops into a frenzy.
“Shit. Ethan, Lisa, Jason... Take that thing down! It’s a wyvern, way stronger than anything else here!” Michael ordered.
Ethan and Lisa exchanged gnces. It didn’t seem quite as strong as General Ulgath, but it was close.
The wyvern opened its jaws, unleashing a torrent of crimson fmes. The very air twisted and shimmered under the heat.
Michael fired his sniper. The bullet ricocheted harmlessly off the wyvern’s hide, leaving only a minor bruise that healed instantly.
Ethan and Jason rushed forward, weaving through the chaotic battlefield. Ethan charged straight ahead while Jason occasionally struck down enemy soldiers along the way.
As they got closer, a chill ran down Ethan’s spine.
It was massive. Easily the size of two houses.
Activating Crimson Swordsmanship, he leaped into the air, descending like a runaway train.
Blood essence coated his bde as he swung down with all his strength.
Boom!
His sword barely sank four centimeters into its flesh before the wyvern swatted him away with a powerful cw.
Ethan soared through the air, crashing into the ground hard. His Vital Force worked immediately, knitting his wounds together.
Jason struck next, his staff burning with red fmes. But the attack barely left a mark.
“It’s resistant to fire, you idiot!” Lisa shouted.
She loosed two arrows, which split into six smaller serpents midair, slithering toward their target.
Ethan was sure they would nd.
But then the knight moved.
“Pathetic.”
With a single sweep of his massive spear, he dispersed the serpents like they were nothing.
Jason trembled before biting his lip hard enough to bleed. He leaped forward, pointing his staff at the wyvern.
His essence surged.
As he got close, his staff expanded, glowing with intense fire essence.
Shoving it straight into the wyvern’s chest.
The beast screamed. Its insides were cooking.
The knight atop the wyvern stood.
And in the next moment Jason was sent flying, crashing into the citadel wall thirty meters away.
In his pce stood the enemy general.
His white hair and sharp features only made him look more commanding.
A hushed silence fell over the battlefield.
The enemy soldiers roared.
“GENERAL!!”
“GENERAL!!”
Ethan gnced at the wyvern, it was already regenerating. Almost completely.
The general’s gaze locked onto Ethan.
He moved.
Five meters vanished in a millisecond.
Ethan barely had time to raise his sword before the enemy struck.
He activated everything.
His sword fred crimson, unleashing a Blood Ssh aimed directly at the general’s chest.
The general didn’t even dodge.
The attack hit him head-on.
Not a scratch.
‘Big mistake, asshole.’ Ethan smirked.
The moment the general attacked him, he turned his back to Lisa.
And she was ready.
Two water serpents shed against his back, sending him flying.
But the wyvern jumped forward, catching him mid-air.
It breathed fire again.
Lisa rushed in front of Ethan, drawing her bow.
She loosed a dozen arrows, colpsing onto one knee as she fumbled for an essence potion.
The arrows merged into one massive serpent, crashing directly into the wall of fmes.
A blinding explosion engulfed the battlefield.
Then, above the chaos, the voices of both generals rang out.
“Retreat!!!”
